Distraction and Time Estimation
Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1968It is argued that events which occur during an interval of time which is being judged may be classified in terms of their effects on the alertness of the subject, and in terms of the degree to which they distract him from the task of detecting and processing time-relevant cues.

It has been claimed that fear shortens time-estimates. Contrary to this view, 35 spider-phobic subjects give longer estimates of a short interval spent observing a spider than 18 non-phobic controls. The phobics' estimates are also more variable.

ICASSP '76. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005
A maximum likelihood (ML) estimator is derived for determining time delay between two signals observed in the presence of uncorrelated noise, under the assumptions of known signal and noise spectral characteristics. This ML estimator can be realized as a pair of receiver prefilters followed by a cross correlator.

Time Estimation and Personality
Journal of Mental Science, 1962Recent time estimation studies (e.g. Loehlin 1959, Frankenhaeuser 1959, Wallace and Rabin, 1960) although carrying on studies dating back to the time of Vierodt and Wundt, suggest that time experiments merit more attention in modern psychology and psychiatry.

The Embodiment of Time Estimation
2011In this essay, we explain time estimation on the basis of principles of self-organization. Timing behavior can be seen as an outcome of the coupling and coordination across physiological events, overt behavior, and task demands. Such coupling reveals itself in scaling relations known as fractal patterns.

Journal of Time Series Analysis, 1988
AbstractThe problem considered is that of estimating the delays that arise when a waveform propagates across an array. Problems that arise in previous estimation techniques when the signal‐to‐noise ratio is low are reduced by introducing an improved weighting of frequencies into the formulae and by using finite parameter models to estimate this weight ...

PROSPECTIVE AND RETROSPECTIVE TIME ESTIMATION
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 199130 students, when performing a task that required listening to 19 sentences for 150 sec., overestimated the duration of the task less in the prospective condition than in the retrospective one (46 sec. vs 85 sec.).

Time Estimation among Schizophrenics
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980Studies of time estimation among schizophrenics have sometimes been difficult to integrate with one another because of differing methodologies and inconsistent definitions. The present study should increase clarity by employing several methods of time estimation within the same study and maintaining a consistent definition of overestimation and ...

Estimating Customer and Time Averages
Operations Research, 1993In this paper we establish a joint central limit theorem for customer and time averages by applying a martingale central limit theorem in a Markov framework. The limiting values of the two averages appear in the translation terms. This central limit theorem helps to construct confidence intervals for estimators and perform statistical tests.

Perception and Estimation of Time
Annual Review of Psychology, 1984nouns or of photographs of faces. This difference in roles of the two hemispheres was to be tested by using right-handed and left-handed Ss. The results were negative, but also the hypotheses were weak. Does a recognition task not always involve the dominant hemisphere?
