Effects of analysis of posterior subtenon injection of triamcinolone: a case series [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
PURPOSE: To evaluate the effects of posterior subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide in patients with intraocular inflammation. METHODS: Case series enrolling 24 patients (26 eyes) submitted to posterior subtenon injection of triamcinolone ...

Protothecosis in Dogs: A Narrative Review

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 39, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
ABSTRACT Protothecosis is a rare and unusual disease that affects both humans and animals, including dogs. The causative agents are unicellular, achlorophyllous, “yeast‐like” microalgae of the genus Prototheca (Trebouxiophyceae, Chlorophyta). Although usually saprophytic, Prototheca may, under conditions of immunologic compromise, become pathogenic and

Colloid‐Forming Prodrug‐Hydrogel Composite Prolongs Lower Intraocular Pressure in Rodent Eyes after Subconjunctival Injection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 8, February 25, 2025.
Colloidal drug aggregates (CDAs) are repurposed as a platform for long‐acting ocular drug delivery. Timolol palmitate CDAs are stabilized within an in situ gelling hydrogel and injected subconjunctivally, reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) for 49 d with lower systemic exposure compared to conventional eye drops.

Fish Fin‐Derived Non‐Invasive Flexible Bioinspired Contact Lens for Continuous Ophthalmic Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, February 10, 2025.
Inspired by the structure and reciprocating motion of fish dorsal fins, a drug‐eluting contact lens based on deformable microstructures for non‐invasive drug delivery is developed. The drug release rate can be adaptively adjusted to intraocular pressure changes and proactively regulated by cyclic ocular loads, enabling it to respond to elevated ...

Quantification method for timolol from in vivo samples for the development of a new glaucoma drug depot

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2018
Glaucoma is the second most common cause of blindness. An increased intraocular pressure is the only treatable symptom of glaucoma. Because patients often exhibit a poor therapy adherence, a drug depot consisting of ELA-NCO and hyaluronic acid with ...
