Numerical simulation on the effect of tip clearance size on unsteadiness in tip clearance flow
Journal of Thermal Science, 2008Unsteadiness of tip clearance flow with three different tip clearance sizes is numerically investigated in this paper. NASA Rotor 67 is chosen as the computational model. It is found that among all the simulated cases, the unsteadiness exists when the size of the tip clearance is equal to or larger than design tip clearance size.

AbstractThis article describes the effects of some factors on the tip clearance flow in axial linear turbine cascades. The measurements of the total pressure loss coefficient are made at the cascade outlets by using a five-hole probe at exit Mach numbers of 0.10, 0.14 and 0.19.

Tip Clearance and Tip Vortex Cavitation in an Axial Flow Pump
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1997A combined study of tip clearance and tip vortex cavitations in a pump-type rotating machine is presented. Cavitation patterns are observed and cavitation inception is determined for various gap heights, clearance and blade geometries, and rotor operating conditions.

The shape of turbine tip clearance is researched, by the means of numerical analysis. Parametric modeling, process integration, and optimization of tip clearance shape were proposed.
