Endwall Profiling With Tip Clearance Flows
Volume 8: Turbomachinery, Parts A, B, and C, 2012This paper describes the design of a non-axisymmetric profiled endwall with tip clearance flow. Previous designs have assumed that the interaction between the tip clearance flow and the endwall has been negligible and this paper allows this assumption to be tested.

Propeller tip clearance and afterbody form
International Shipbuilding Progress, 1969This report presents some simple theoretical considerations of how the transverse slope of the sections of the stern above the propeller is expected to influence the propeller-induced vibratory surface force in vertical direction on the afterbody. The results indicate that flat-bottomed sections are preferable.

A Microwave Blade Tip Clearance Sensor for Active Clearance Control Applications
40th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 2004Active clearance control has been used to improve efficiency and performance in commercial aircraft engines. Technologies implemented to date rely on compressor bleed air to control clearances based on open loop control and the flight regime (takeoff, cruise, etc.).

The Measurement and Formation of Tip Clearance Loss
Journal of Turbomachinery, 1989The detailed development of tip clearance loss from the leading to trailing edge of a linear turbine cascade was measured and the contributions made by mixing, internal gap shear flow, and endwall/ secondary flow were identified, separated, and quantified for the first time.

Optical tip clearance measurements for rotating disk characterization
2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2015An experimental study about the vibrational behaviour of two prototypes of a rotating disk by means of three optical sensors is presented. Both prototypes were assembled in a wind tunnel in order to reproduce real operation conditions. The optical sensors identified the vibration frequency and the nodal diameter of the first prototype by measuring the ...

Rotordynamic effects of compressor rotor-tip clearance asymmetry
AIAA Journal, 2001Rotordynamic effects caused by nonaxisymmetric rotor-tip clearance in an axial compressor stage have been analyzed. Two coupled actuator discanalyses are carried out at blade (meridional plane )andradius(radial plane ) scales. Continuity, axial, and tangential momentum equations are used to connect upstream and downstream e ows across the compressor ...

Turbine Blade Tip Clearance Improvement
Volume 1: Turbomachinery, 1991A recently developed non-traditional design concept addressing turbine blade tip clearance reduction to provide long-term engine performance improvement and stability is presented. The concept is based on the direct attachment of the diaphragm, which supports Stage 1 integral nozzle and tips shroud segments, to the bearing housing, thus providing a ...

Tip Clearance Signal Processor Development
1988Abstract : A signal processing system was designed and constructed to detect peaks of the Vatell eddy current clearance sensor signal, measure their amplitude and timing, and compute a correction for machine speed to indicate clearance and time arrival for individual blades of a turbomachine.
