I am grateful to Gilly Salmon for providing further personal insight into the five-stage model for e-learning, reviewed in my recent paper (Moule, 2007).

Tipping point analysis of ocean acoustic noise [PDF]
We apply tipping point analysis to a large record of ocean acoustic data to identify the main components of the acoustic dynamical system and study possible bifurcations and transitions of the system.

Normal Mode Perspective on the 2016 QBO Disruption: Evidence for a Basic State Regime Transition
A normal mode decomposition of the dynamical structure of the quasi‐biennial oscillation (QBO) is presented in this article. It was found that the QBO is predominantly described by Rossby modes as well as westward inertio‐gravity modes with a low ...

The Tipping Points of Technology Development
The tipping point, the decisive point in time in the competition between old and new, is an interesting phenomenon in physics of today. This aspect in technology acceptance is connected to many business decisions such as technology investments, product ...

Tipping point dynamics in global land use
Agricultural land use has recently peaked, both globally and across country income groups, after centuries of expansion and intensification. Such shifts in the evolution of global land use have implications for food security, biodiversity loss, and ...

Chapter 1.6: Early warning signals of Earth system tipping points [PDF]
This chapter focuses on the methods used to predict the movement of parts of the Earth system towards tipping points. It begins by introducing the theory of critical slowing down (CSD), a general phenomenon of slowing recovery from perturbations that ...

The commonly overlooked environmental tipping points
Climate models are developed based on well-established physical principles applied to past and recent climate changes. There is considerable confidence that the models can also provide estimates of some climate variables (i.e., surface temperature, CO2 ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
