Impact of tire particle leachates on microplankton communities in the Canary Islands

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Tire wear particles (TWP) are a major source of microplastics in the environment. Despite their prevalence, the effects of tire particle leachates on marine microplankton communities remains poorly understood. In this study, we assessed the acute impacts

Effectiveness of Resistance Intradialytic Exercise Compared to Aerobic Intradialytic Exercise for Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis commonly experience reduced physical function, fatigue, poor sleep quality, and impaired health‐related quality of life. Intradialytic exercise has been proposed as a non‐pharmacological strategy to improve these outcomes.

Three-dimensional numerical simulation of mechanical properties of soil-tire mixture by discrete element method [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
Soil engineering properties can be improved employing different methods. Among them is mixing soil with tire derived additives (TDA). TDAs generally increase some parameters of mixture such as damping ratio, permeability, ductility and also in some cases

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Recycling of Rubber Wastes as Fuel and Its Additives

open access: yesRecycling, 2021
Economic, social, and urban developments generally require improvements in the transportation sector, which includes automobiles such as trucks, buses, trailers, airplanes, and even bicycles. All these vehicles use rubber tires.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Environmental aging of tire and road wear particles and tire additives: a long-term field study

open access: yesEnvironmental Science: Processes & Impacts
A 17–20 months aging of TRWP by sunlight and in a sedimentation pond shows pronounced loss of extractable chemicals and changes in composition, from parent compounds to transformation products. But considerable residues of extractables remained.

Analysis of the Carbonation in Normal Concrete with the Addition of Tire Rubber Aggregate

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2020
Abstract Tires are an industrial waste that has become a worldwide environmental problem. To minimize this effect, tire waste is used in construction as a concrete aggregate. Additionally, carbon dioxide in the atmosphere affects the carbonation of concrete.
