Integrated tire wear buildup and rainfall-runoff model to simulate tire wear particles in stormwater

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Management, 2023
This paper presents an approach to integrate tire wear buildup and rainfall-runoff models to simulate tire wear buildup on road surfaces and its subsequent transport in stormwater runoff events. To do so, a buildup model is presented based on vehicle kilometers traveled, vehicle type, vehicle speed, and road roughness within a watershed.

Numerical Prediction of Car Tire Wear

open access: yesTire Science and Technology, 2004
Abstract Due to their many economic and ecological implications, the possibility to predict tire wear is of major importance to tire manufacturers, fleet owners and governments. Based on these observations, in 2000, a three‐year project named TROWS (Tire and Road Wear and Slip assessment) was started. One of the TROWS objectives is to provide a

Tire Wear at Controlled Slip

open access: yesRubber Chemistry and Technology, 1962
Abstract Tire wear at controlled slip, as realized by setting the wheels of a trailer at a slip angle, obeys the theoretically predicted square law dependence on the slip angle if allowance is made for the effect of temperature and abrasion patterns on the abrasion resistance of the tread compound.

Accelerated Tire Wear under Controlled Conditions. II. Some Factors that Influence Tire Wear

open access: yesRubber Chemistry and Technology, 1973
Abstract Using the test system described in (I), we have determined the effect of some of the important factors in tire wear. There are three primary factors: tire force, pavement texture, and tire surface temperature. The major factor of these three is the sustained or instantaneous tire force. Accelerometer measurements show that cornering or

Orbiter tire traction and wear

36th Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 1995
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The traction and wear problem for a main landing gear tire of the Space Shuttle Orbiter is considered. Side force acting on the tire during landing under yawed conditions, and the associated tire wear, are computed using analytical expressions derived from basic principles of physics.

Effect of Tire Wear on Wear Rate

Tire Science and Technology, 1975
Abstract A question arises as to whether the wear rate of tires is constant under constant conditions and whether the tread life of tires may therefore be projected by linear extrapolation from low mileage tests. A second question arises as to whether commercially produced tires are uniform enough to serve as monitors of environmental change. A
