Comprehensive Study of the Performance of Winter Tires on Ice, Snow, and Asphalt Roads: The Influence of Tire Type and Wear

open access: yes, 2017
This work presents a comprehensive study of the performance of winter tires on snow, ice, and asphalt. A set of 77 different winter tires were carefully selected for the study. Of these, 27 were new and 50 were worn from real traffic use.

Transformations of 6PPD and 6PPD-quinone in soil under redox-driven conditions: Kinetics, product identification, and environmental implications

open access: yesEnvironment International
The pervassive release of tire and road wear particles (TRWPs) introduces the tire additive 6PPD and its biologically active derivative, 6PPD-quinone (6PPD-Q), into the environment, with soil serving as the primary sink. However, at present their fate in

Silicone Breast Implants as a Model System for Understanding Polymer Permeation in Soft Materials In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Silicone breast implants are presented as a model system for understanding polymer permeation in vivo. Rather than representing material failure, “gel bleed” emerges from solution–diffusion transport‐mediated. By integrating polymer architecture, physicochemical transport, and biointerfacial processes, this review provides a unified framework that ...

Cadmium and copper absorption by Eisenia fetida in the presence of different concentrations of microplastics [PDF]

open access: yesMuhandisī-i Bihdāsht-i Muḥīṭ, 2023
Background: Soil serves as the primary repository for microplastics, yet their impact on soil-dwelling organisms remains insufficiently understood. This study aims to investigate the influence of varying concentrations of microplastics in soil on the ...

Azobenzene's Cross‐Scale Optics and Photonics: Molecular Photoswitching, Mesoscopic Material Motions, and Adaptive Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Azobenzene photoswitches translate molecular‐scale E/Z photoisomerization into macroscopic material responses and device‐level photonic functions. This Review highlights how azobenzene research has evolved from molecular photochemistry to photoalignment, mass migration, photomechanics, and heat release, ultimately enabling holography, reconfigurable ...

Abundance and distribution of tire and road wear particles in the Seine River, France

open access: yesScience of The Total Environment, 2023
Tire and road wear particles (TRWP) are formed at the frictional interface between tires and the road surface. Tire tread and road pavement materials are denser than water but can be washed from the road surface into receiving water bodies, ultimately depositing into sediment, soil, or other media depending on the receiving environment.
