Intervertebral disc degeneration in dogs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Back pain is common in both dogs and humans, and is often associated with intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration. The IVDs are essential structures of the spine and degeneration can ultimately result in diseases such as IVD herniation or spinal ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Validation and clinical application of molecular methods for the identification of molds in tissue

open access: yes, 2006
Background. Invasive fungal infections due to less-common molds are an increasing problem, and accurate diagnosis is difficult.Methods. We used our previously established molecular method, which allows species identification of molds in histological ...

Applications of Raman spectroscopy to urology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Raman spectroscopy is an optical technique that can interrogate biological tissues. In doing so it gives us an understanding of the changes in the molecular structure that are associated with disease development.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Comparison between traditional and digital anterior repositioning splints on the upper airway in skeletal class II malocclusion with TMJ degenerative disease

open access: yesScientific Reports
This retrospective observational study compared the effects of traditional Anterior Repositioning Splint (ARS) and digital ARS on the upper airway of patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion and temporomandibular joint degenerative joint disease.

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Probenecid relieves LPS-induced neuroinflammation by modulating the NLRP1 inflammasome pathway in BV2 cells

open access: yesScientific Reports
Inflammation is a key factor in neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) development, such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD). Microglial cells maintain immune microenvironment homeostasis in the central nervous system (CNS) and are ...
