Effect of the venom of the scorpion Tityus serrulatus on adrenal gland catecholamines
Toxicon, 1968Abstract A sublethal dose of the venom of the scorpion Tityus serrulatus produced a depletion of adrenal gland catecholamines. This effect was blocked on denervation of the adrenals. The action of the venom on the chromaffin granules in vitro was not observed. Certain fractions of the venom elicited the same effects as the whole venom.

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2014Envenoming caused by scorpion sting is a serious public health problem. In Brazil, 13,038 accidents caused by venomous animals have been reported.
