Toku toa, he toa rangatira: Fearlessness and Indigenous Scholarship

open access: yesLink Symposium Abstracts 2020, 2020
A well-known whakataukī (aphorism, proverb) tells us toku toa, he toa rangatira, quite literally ‘my courage is inherited’. Wairaka is known as an impressive young wahine from pre-colonial times who, in the face of a life or death situation, stood up to adversity to supersede an important, long held tikanga Māori (protocol) to save the Ngāti Awa iwi ...

Temporal Modeling of Amyloid and Tau Trajectories in Alzheimer's Disease Using PET and Plasma Biomarkers

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective This study aimed to compare positron emission tomography (PET) and plasma‐based temporal modeling of amyloid and tau biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease. Methods Longitudinal amyloid PET (n = 1,097, mean age ± SD = 72.5 ± 7.38 year, 51.4% male), 18F‐flortaucipir tau‐PET (n = 230, 74.3 ± 7.18 year, 52.2% female), and Fujirebio Lumipulse plasma p‐

The daytime cycle in dust aerosol direct radiative effects observed in the central Sahara during the Fennec campaign in June 2011 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The direct clear-sky radiative effect (DRE) of atmospheric mineral dust is diagnosed over the Bordj Badji Mokhtar (BBM) supersite in the central Sahara during the Fennec campaign in June 2011.

Double‐Limbed Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction Using Knotless Femoral Fixation Technique

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract This technical note describes using knotless femoral fixation for medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction for skeletally immature patients. Using a knotless anchor for epiphyseal femoral fixation in the skeletally immature decreases the risk of irritable interference screw fixation and optimizes graft contact with host bone.

Successive Uranium and Thorium Separation from Leach Liquor of Ore Deposit of 5th Anomaly of Saghand by Solvent Extraction [PDF]

open access: yesمجله علوم و فنون هسته‌ای, 2014
The present work deals with successive uranium and thorium recovery from the sulfate leach liquor of the ore deposit of the 5th Anomaly of Saghand using liquid-liquid extraction technique, where trioctylamine (TOA) and di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid ...

UWB joint TOA and DOA estimation [PDF]

open access: yes2009 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband, 2009
This paper deals with the simultaneous estimation of Time of Arrival (TOA) and Direction of Arrival (DOA) in UWB systems considering multipath propagation. The estimation is performed in the frequency domain by computing a two dimensional power delay-angle spectrum based on the periodogram because of its low computational complexity.

Low‐Temperature Initiation Enhances HCN and NH3 Formation From Methane and NO Over Pt/Al2O3

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) was formed from CH4 and NO over Pt/Al2O3 at low temperatures. Increasing NO concentration and optimizing reaction‐start conditions significantly enhanced HCN yield. In situ FTIR and DXAFS measurements revealed that dynamically balancing Pt‑CO and Pt‑CN surface species, particularly their desorption under temperature‑swing ...

Patient‐ and Clinician‐Related Factors Associated With the Reduction in Opioid Use Among Adults With Chronic Non‐Cancer Pain: A Systematic Review

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Despite known risks, opioids are widely used for chronic non‐cancer pain (CNCP). Clinical guidelines now recommend deprescribing, but factors predicting success are poorly understood. This systematic review aimed to identify clinician and patient factors associated with attaining successful opioid dose reduction or discontinuation in adults with CNCP ...

Top-of-the-atmosphere shortwave flux estimation from satellite observations: an empirical neural network approach applied with data from the A-train constellation [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2016
Estimates of top-of-the-atmosphere (TOA) radiative flux are essential for the understanding of Earth's energy budget and climate system. Clouds, aerosols, water vapor, and ozone (O3) are among the most important atmospheric agents impacting the Earth's ...
