An Activity‐Dependent NEPAS–PTX3 Axis Links Neurovascular and Myelin Deficits to Cognitive Impairment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An activity‐dependent pathway links prefrontal circuit hypoactivity to cognitive impairment. Reduced PVA–mPFC activity upregulates NEPAS, which suppresses PTX3 secretion, leading to impaired angiogenesis, myelin deficits, and memory decline. Rescue is achieved by NEPAS knockdown or chemogenetic circuit activation.

Introducing oral tobacco for tobacco harm reduction: what are the main obstacles?

open access: yesHarm Reduction Journal, 2007
With the number of smokers worldwide currently on the rise, the regular failure of smokers to give up their tobacco addiction, the direct role of smoke (and, to a much lesser extent, nicotine) in most tobacco-related diseases, and the availability of ...

TOBACCO HARM REDUCTION INVOLVES MORE THAN CIGARETTE HARM REDUCTION

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Public Health, 2004
I contributed to the Institute of Medicine report Clearing the Smoke: Assessing the Science Base for Tobacco Harm Reduction,1 and I am writing to correct misrepresentations made about it in 2 recent articles in the Journal.2,3 The articles suggest that the report signals a rebirth of “safer cigarettes”2 and that it was primarily about cigarette harm ...

Natural Variation of NAR5 Determines Nitrogenase Activity and the Yield in Soybean

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identified NAR5, a gene encoding a subtilisin‐like protease, that regulates nitrogenase activity in soybean nodules. Overexpressing NAR5 delayed nodule senescence, enhancing nitrogenase activity, yield, and low‐nitrogen tolerance. The elite haplotype NAR5HapI‐1 linked to superior nitrogenase activity and greater seed weight has been ...

Smokeless tobacco, ENDS and harm reduction: ¿trick or treat?

open access: yesTobacco Prevention and Cessation, 2018
Introduction The harm reduction arises to reduce diseases related to tobacco or previous step to the abstinence. Historically, faced with the concern of its customers, the tobacco industry exploited this concept to promote cigarettes with filters, light ...

Is smokeless tobacco a healthier option in patients with AUD? A follow-up study during treatment [PDF]

open access: yes
Introduction - Smoking is negatively related to mental health, but there is a paucity of research on the relationship between the use of smokeless tobacco, such as snus, and mental health outcomes, especially in people with alcohol use disorders (AUD ...

Selective Inhibition of Integrin β3 Topology Provides a Safer Antithrombotic Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current integrin αIIbβ3 inhibitors effectively reduce thrombosis but also increase bleeding risk. During thrombosis, high shear blood flow can directly activate the integrin αIIbβ3 via a distinct topological change in the β3 transmembrane domain, independent of hemostatic platelet signaling.

RBM10 Deficiency Promotes Anti‐PD‐1 Resistance in LUAD via STING Alternative Splicing‐Driven CCL7 Signaling and Macrophage Polarization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RBM10 deficiency promotes anti‐PD‐1 resistance in lung adenocarcinoma by altering STING alternative splicing, which enhances CCL7 secretion and CCR2‐dependent M2 macrophage polarization. A positive feedback loop via mitochondrial transfer sustains this immunosuppression.

Tobacco Harm Reduction with Vaporised Nicotine (THRiVe): The Study Protocol of an Uncontrolled Feasibility Study of Novel Nicotine Replacement Products among People Living with HIV Who Smoke

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2017
Smoking is a leading cause of morbidity and premature mortality among people living with HIV (PLHIV), who have high rates of tobacco smoking. Vaporised nicotine products (VNPs) are growing in popularity as a quit aid and harm reduction tool.
