The Landscape and Regulation of Histone Crotonylation in Mammalian Gametes and Early Embryos

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Histone crotonylation undergoes a genome‐wide transition from broad domains to canonical narrow peaks during minor zygotic genome activation (ZGA). This remodeling is required for proper major ZGA and blastocyst formation. Disruption of this transition by transcriptional inhibition, metabolic perturbation, or HDAC1 dysfunction impairs embryonic ...

A Virus‐Inducible E3–RLCK–MADS Module Coordinates Suppression of Plant Immunity and Fertility in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Viruses often hijack host developmental programs to promote infection, but the mechanistic links between reproductive regulation and antiviral immunity remain incompletely understood. Here, we identify a virus‐triggered hierarchical degradation cascade that links antiviral immunity and fertility regulation in rice. We show that the rice grassy

Emerging challenges in tobacco control – Heated tobacco products, Harm reduction and the Foundation for a Smoke-Free world

open access: yesTobacco Prevention and Cessation, 2018
In order to warrant tobacco industry’s profits and overcome a declining cigarette market, tobacco companies have recently launched the novel heated tobacco products (HTPs), claiming a 90-95% reduction in harmfulness.

DISPARITIES IN GLOBAL TOBACCO HARM REDUCTION

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Public Health, 2005
In “Origins of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control,” Roemer et al. present a compelling argument for a unified global approach to tobacco control.1 However, the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control will not benefit nonsignatory countries, which tend to have few or no existing tobacco control measures in place. Indonesia is the only Asian

NLSS3 Impairs SHM1 Autophagic Degradation to Regulate Leaf Morphology and Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In rice, NLSS3 binds and shields SHM1 from autophagic degradation to maintain serine homeostasis. The A132P mutation in nlss3 disrupts this, triggering SHM1 loss, metabolic dysfunction, K+ imbalance, and impaired ROS scavenging, which collectively drive narrow leaves and salt sensitivity.

Harm reduction associated with heated tobacco products: A systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesPakistan Journal of Medical Sciences
Objective: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised studies in humans comparing the outcomes of switching to heated tobacco products (HTPs) versus continuing conventional tobacco smoking by burning.

Histone Modification Complex JMJ704‐HDA709 Negatively Regulates Salinity Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the rice histone demethylase JMJ704 interacts with HDA709―a H3K9ac deacetylase characterized herein―to form a chromatin‐modifying complex. Under salt stress, OsWRKY72 recruits this complex through interaction with JMJ704 to target loci, repressing the expression of oxidative stress and salt‐responsive genes via removal of ...
