Active Biopaste for Coral Reef Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Preserving coral reefs is essential. A conductive, hardening paste for coral attachment and mineral accretion technology is developed, using a bio‐based acrylate soybean oil matrix and graphene nanoplatelets. Corals are attached with and onto the conductive paste, electricity is applied, water electrolysis is induced, and calcium is deposited at the ...

Osseointegration of zirconia implants compared with titanium : an in vivo study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background Titanium and titanium alloys are widely used for fabrication of dental implants. Since the material composition and the surface topography of a biomaterial play a fundamental role in osseointegration, various chemical and physical surface ...

Eosinophils‐Induced Lumican Secretion by Synovial Fibroblasts Alleviates Cartilage Degradation via the TGF‐β Pathway Mediated by Anxa1 Binding

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Eosinophils play a crucial role in the progression of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA). This study demonstrates that eosinophils, induced by OVA/IL‐5, promote Lumican secretion in the synovium, which binds to Annexin A1 in chondrocytes, inhibiting transforming growth factor β2 and Smad2/3 phosphorylation.

Akt-dependent Pp2a activity is required for epidermal barrier formation during late embryonic development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Acquisition of epidermal barrier function occurs late in mouse gestation. Several days before birth a wave of barrier acquisition sweeps across murine fetal skin, converging on dorsal and ventral midlines.

Harnessing the Immunomodulation of UV‐Exposed Keratinocyte Extracellular Vesicles for Inflammatory Disorder Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Adopting a paradigm shift that transforms a known health hazard as a potential therapeutic asset, a novel therapeutic strategy is set out to investigate for inflammatory conditions by leveraging immunosuppressive properties of UV‐irradiated keratinocytes.

Tailoring Tubular Supramolecular Polymers with Polar Lumens to Host Hydrophilic Dye Molecules

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A unique class of tubular polymer structures that are soluble in apolar organic solvents but are endowed with polar pores has been created through the rational design of the monomer units, which self‐assemble in amphiphilic cyclic entities that then stack into tubular architectures. These tailored assemblies are able to selectively host hydrophilic dye
