Withanolides from dietary tomatillo suppress HT1080 cancer cell growth by targeting mutant IDH1

Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry, 2021
Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) is one key rate-limiting enzyme in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, which is related to various cancers. Tomatillo (Physalis ixocarpa), a special tomato, is widely consumed as nutritious vegetable in Mexico, USA, etc. As a rich source for withanolides, the fruits of P.

Safety of tomatillos and products containing tomatillos canned by the water-bath canning method

Plant Foods for Human Nutrition, 1998
Three studies were conducted to evaluate the safety of tomatillos and products containing tomatillos canned by the water-bath processing method. In the first study, plain tomatillos were processed for 25, 37.5, 50 and 62.5 min. In the second study, five tomatillo/onion combinations were prepared while five tomatillo/green chile combinations were ...

Selected nutritional and quality analyses of tomatillos (Physalis ixocarpa)

Plant Foods for Human Nutrition, 1995
Proximate composition, total dietary fiber and pH of tomatillos (Physalis ixocarpa) grown in Baja, California were analyzed. Moisture content averaged 92%. On a dry matter basis (DMB), tomatillos contained 11% protein, 18% fat, 13% ash and 5% total dietary fiber.

Ixocarpalactone A from dietary tomatillo inhibits pancreatic cancer growth by targeting PHGDH

Food & Function, 2019
3-Phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase (PHGDH) has been reported to associate with tumorigenesis in many cancers. IoxA, a natural withanolide obtained from dietary tomatillo (Physalis ixocarpa), was identified as the novel natural PHGDH inhibitor with high targeting and low toxicities for treatment of pancreatic cancers.

Developmental changes and postharvest physiology of tomatillo fruits (Physalis ixocarpa Brot.)

Scientia Horticulturae, 1992
Abstract The tomatillo or husk tomato ( Physalis ixocarpa Brot.) is a solanaceous fruit vegetable used to prepare the green sauces of Mexican cooking. Developmental changes were studied from anthesis to yellowing in fruits of cultivar ‘Rendidora’. During an 8 week growth period both chlorophyll and carotene contents decreased.
