Evaluation of physiological stress in free‐ranging bears: current knowledge and future directions

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 98, Issue 1, Page 168-190, February 2023., 2023
ABSTRACT Stress responses, which are mediated by the neurogenic system (NS) and hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis help vertebrates maintain physiological homeostasis. Fight‐or‐flight responses are activated by the NS, which releases norepinephrine/noradrenaline and epinephrine/adrenaline in response to immediate stressors, whilst the HPA axis ...

Daily milk yield correction factors: what are they? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Cows are typically milked two or more times on a test day, but not all these milkings are sampled and weighed. Statistical methods have been proposed to estimate daily yields in dairy cows, centering on various yield correction factors in two broad categories.

Successful cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation incorporating defibrillation in a filly with neonatal maladjustment syndrome following a routine anaesthetic procedure

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, Volume 35, Issue 2, Page e77-e85, February 2023., 2023
Summary A 10‐h‐old 56‐kg Thoroughbred filly was presented for treatment of partial failure of passive transfer of immunity and presumed neonatal maladjustment syndrome (NMS). The filly was hospitalised, and supportive care initiated. On Day 5 of hospitalisation, seizures were observed and were controlled with IV administration of diazepam.

Viral‐Mediated Connexin 26 Expression Combined with Dexamethasone Rescues Hearing in a Conditional Gjb2 Null Mice Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
AAV2.7m8 serotype combined with the gfaABC1D promoter targets infection of supporting cells (SCs). AAV2.7m8‐gfaABC1D‐Gjb2 administration to mice results in excessive immune responses. The combination of AAV2.7m8‐gfaABC1D‐Gjb2 with dexamethasone (DEX) shows a synergistic effect and enhances the gene therapy effect in a conditional Cx26 null mice model ...

Pinoresinol Diglucoside Attenuates Nuclear Receptor Coactivator 4‐Mediated Ferritinophagy Associated with Cisplatin‐Induced Hearing Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pinoresinol diglucoside, a bioactive component extracted from traditional Chinese medicine, attenuates cisplatin‐induced ototoxicity in vivo and in vitro. The protective effect is achieved by downregulation of Socs1. The present study is the first to investigate the expression and function of Socs1 in inner ear, which is known to promote ferroptosis ...
