Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

The inhibition mechanism of ultrasonic vibration on stick-slip phenomenon of sliding friction pair

open access: yesScientific Reports
Frictional vibration often occurs during sliding, commonly referred to as the stick-slip phenomenon. It is more likely to occur in the range of the Stribeck curve, where friction and velocity have negative gradient characteristics.

Hardware-in-the-loop simulator for emulation and active control of chatter

open access: yesHardwareX, 2022
Machine tool cutting performance is limited by the onset of regenerative chatter vibrations. Chatter damages the machine tool system and must be avoided. Efficacy of models guiding circumvention of chatter in actual industrial contexts remains restricted

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Mechanical property changes of gear surfaces in high-speed hobbing

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
In recent years, high-precision gears are expected to be used in vehicles and robots. Currently, gear hobbing is widely used as a roughing process while shaving and grinding are used as finishing processes to improve the accuracy and surface quality of ...

Cu/Cu bonding and SiO2/SiO2 bonding by surface activated bonding at room temperature for hybrid bonding technique

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
It has been said that the end of Moore’s law will be reached in 10 to 20 years. Three dimensional integration technology is expected to be a possible solution in the post-Moore era.

Tools for Constraint Visualisation: The VIFID/TRIFID Tool [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Visualization of program executions has been used in applications which include education and debugging. However, traditional visualization techniques often fall short of expectations or are altogether inadequate for new programming paradigms, such as Constraint Logic Programming (CLP), whose declarative and operational semantics differ in some crucial

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Effect of Cr3C2 Addition on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of WC-CoNiFe Cemented Carbides

open access: yesMetals
In traditional cemented carbides, Co is mainly used as a binder. Recently, replacing Co with medium- to high-entropy alloys has shown significant improvements in hardness, fracture toughness, high-temperature oxidation resistance, and corrosion ...
