Study on key performance parameters of hydro-pneumatic tensioner for top tensioned riser [PDF]
Abstract In this paper an improved mathematical model of a hydro-pneumatic tensioner (HPT) system for top tensioned riser (TTR) is derived by consideration of friction, mass of piston and piston rod, tension loss in hydraulic oil piping, and compressibility of hydraulic oil. The vertical motion of the riser string is also considered.

Dual-Algorithm Hybrid Method for Riser Structural Health Monitoring Using the Fewest Sensors
This study suggests a novel riser structural health monitoring methodology based on a dual algorithm (DA). In this method, the displacement tracing algorithm first traces the node displacement and tension up to the last sensor position called the target ...

Estimation of top tensions in mooring lines by sensor fusion
The paper describes a sensor fusion method that provides reliable, uninterrupted and bias-free estimates of the top tension in a mooring line. The method exploits the geometric nonlinearity of mooring systems installed in shallow to moderate water depths: a change of line length (due to winching) affects the local dynamic stiffness of the mooring line.

Preliminary Study on the Optimum Design of a Tension Leg Platform for Offshore Wind Turbine Systems
We demonstrate a procedure for determining the configuration of a tension leg platform (TLP) on which a 2.4 MW wind turbine can be installed. Various sizes of the structural elements of the TLP are examined to investigate their effects on tendon tension ...

AbstractIn this study, the dynamics of the tendon/top tension riser (TTR) system of a tension-leg platform (TLP) are investigated through an experiment and by using absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF). First, the model test of the TLP system is conducted in the water tank of Harbin Engineering University to examine the motion response of the ...

Numerical study of vibrations of a vertical tension riser excited at the top end
This paper presents numerical simulations of vortex-induced vibrations of a vertical riser which is sinusoidally excited at its top end in both one and two directions in still water. A computational fluid dynamics method based on the strip theory is used.
