The Topographic Effect in Electromagnetic Fields

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Earth Sciences, 1973
By making use of the analogy between the network quantities and the electromagnetic fields, a numerical method is employed to investigate the possible topographic effect in the earth's EM fields for several simple models in two dimensional problems. It is found that various topographies may give rise to distortions in the earth's EM fields, and some ...

Topographic effects on infrasound propagation

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012
Infrasound data were collected using portable arrays in a region of variable terrain elevation to quantify the effects of topography on observed signal amplitude and waveform features at distances less than 25 km from partially contained explosive sources during the Frozen Rock Experiment (FRE) in 2006.

The effect of small topographic variations on reflectance

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2002
The influence of topography on the bidirectional reflectance factors (BRFs) of vegetation canopies is commonly neglected when retrieving canopy parameters by inversion of reflectance models. However, the nonlinear dependence of vegetation BRFs on slope magnitude and orientation means that topography cannot necessarily be assumed to have an ...

Analysis of Topographic Effects on Vegetation Indices

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
In the field of remote sensing, vegetation indices (VIs) have been wieldy used in vegetation monitoring such as the growth status and fractional vegetation cover. However, topographic influence on VIs is an important and inevitable issue when VIs are applied in the large scale. In this study, theoretical error analysis of topographic effects is applied

Correction of the topographic effect in remote sensing

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1999
We derive a formula for the dependence of vegetation-canopy reflectance on terrain slope (visible light only). Reflectance is inversely proportional to the sum of cosine of incidence angle and cosine of exitance angle. Laboratory measurements of miniature forest canopies set up on inclined slopes compare well with predicted reflectances.

Topographical effects in meteorology [PDF]

open access: possible, 2015
The study of airflow over mountains dates from the early 1930s when glider pilots were the first people to experience the effects of lee waves directly. Until that time the only evidence for these waves was the lenticular (lens-shaped) clouds that are sometimes associated with them.

Topographical effects in emission microscopy

Ultramicroscopy, 1980
An analysis of image formation and the origins of topographical effects in emission microscopy are presented. Simplified models of positive and negative surface relief are used in a quantitative treatment of several topographical effects. Negative surface relief is modeled by a trough having a hyperbolic field.

Topographic analysis of the effects of isoflurane anesthesia on SEP [PDF]

open access: possibleElectroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology/Evoked Potentials Section, 1993
Isoflurane anesthesia induces a striking increase in the P22 potential recorded over the precentral scalp whereas the amplitude of the N20 is reduced. It is not known whether the increased "P22" enhanced by isoflurane arises from the same generator as the small precentral P22 potential recorded in the normal awake subject.
