Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

The Topographic Template: Coordinated Shifts in Soil Chemistry, Microbiome, and Enzymatic Activity Across a Fluvial Landscape

open access: yesAgronomy
The soil microbiome is an essential component of agroecosystems. However, managing it remains a challenge due to our limited knowledge of how various environmental factors interact and shape its spatial distribution.

High Precision DEM Generation Algorithm Based on InSAR Multi-Look Iteration

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2017
Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) is one of the most sufficient technologies to provide global digital elevation modeling (DEM). It unwraps the interferometric phase to provide observations for phase-to-height conversion.

Suppression of Mesoscale Eddy Mixing by Topographic PV Gradients

open access: yesJournal of Physical Oceanography
Abstract Oceanic mesoscale eddy mixing plays a crucial role in Earth’s climate system by redistributing heat, salt, and carbon. For many ocean and climate models, mesoscale eddies still need to be parameterized. This is often done via an eddy diffusivity , which sets the ...

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Abnormal center-periphery gradient in spatial attention in simultanagnosia

open access: yes, 2014
This work was supported by the Danish Medical Research Councils [grant number 09-072209 to DB] .Patients suffering from simultanagnosia cannot perceive more than one object at a time. The underlying mechanism is incompletely understood. One hypothesis is

Local topography‐induced pressure gradient effects on the wake and power output of a model wind turbine

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2021
Wind-tunnel experiments were performed to study the effect of favorable and adverse constant pressure gradients (PG) from local changes in the topography right downwind of a model wind turbine. Particle image velocimetry was used to characterize the near

Topotaxis: A New Mechanism of Directed Cell Migration in Topographic ECM Gradients [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2018
Living cells orient the cytoskeleton polarity and directional migration in response to spatial gradients of multiple types of cues. The resulting tactic behaviors are critical for the proper cell localization in the context of complex single-cell and tissue behaviors.
