TOP1MT rs2293925 is an enhancer‐active regulatory SNP that shapes mitochondrial R‐loop dynamics

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
This study shows how a common genetic variant of mitochondrial topoisomerase 1 (TOP1MT rs2293925) can influence mitochondrial gene regulation, DNA topology, and formation of noncanonical nucleic acid structures such as R‐loops. By linking this enhancer‐active variant to mitochondrial nucleic acid stress in cellular contexts relevant to amyotrophic ...

Ploidy‐dependent modulation of DNA replication kinetics in Xenopus

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Using an interspecies replication system with Xenopus frog species of different ploidy levels, we investigated how DNA replication adapts to polyploidization. While replication was slower in tetraploid than in diploid nuclei, dodecaploid nuclei unexpectedly replicated faster than tetraploid nuclei. Our findings show that increasing genome size does not

A guide to transcriptional cyclin‐dependent kinases in cancer

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Transcriptional cyclin‐dependent‐kinases (tCDKs) facilitate gene expression by promoting RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) progression through discrete phases of the transcription cycle. Aberrant tCDK activity is detectable in different human cancers, thereby contributing to de‐regulated gene expression programs that drive oncogenic phenotypes.

Protoberberine alkaloids and related compounds as dual inhibitors of mammalian topoisomerase I and II

open access: yes, 1994
Berberine and several structurally-related analogs were evaluated as inhibitors of topoisomerase I andll. The pharmacological activity of protoberberines exhibited a strong dependence upon the type and location of substituents. Several of these alkaloids

Survival among patients with systemic sclerosis‐associated pulmonary arterial hypertension in the Australian scleroderma cohort study

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Aims Systemic sclerosis (scleroderma; SSc) patients can develop pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), which is a leading cause of death. We sought to evaluate severity, therapeutic strategy and survival of SSc‐PAH in the Australian Scleroderma Cohort Study (ASCS).

Phenotypic Florfenicol Resistance in floR‐Harbouring Flavobacterium psychrophilum Isolates (CC‐ST90): A Case Study From Danish Freshwater Rainbow Trout Aquaculture

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Monitoring antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in fish pathogens is essential for supporting sustainable aquaculture. In this study, susceptibility testing and genome sequencing were used to characterize the AMR profile of seven Flavobacterium psychrophilum originating from Danish rainbow trout farms (2019–2022).
