Topological transitions in metals

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2019
We investigate if a sharp topological transition in a metal with a large Fermi surface may be detected in transport measurements. In particular, we address if a skew scattering and a side jump on elastic disorder in the bulk of such a metal masks signatures of the topological transition.

Actively Controlling the Topological Transition of Dispersion Based on Electrically Controllable Metamaterials

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Topological transition of the iso-frequency contour (IFC) from a closed ellipsoid to an open hyperboloid provides unique capabilities for controlling the propagation of light.

Topological Quantum Phase Transition and Local Topological Order in a Strongly Interacting Light-Matter System

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017

Room-Temperature Topological Phase Transition in Quasi-One-Dimensional Material Bi_{4}I_{4}

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2021
Quasi-one-dimensional (1D) materials provide a superior platform for characterizing and tuning topological phases for two reasons: (i) existence for multiple cleavable surfaces that enables better experimental identification of topological classification

Two dimensional Floquet topological states in a driven graphene lattice

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2023
The study of topological phase transitions induced by external fields in quantum systems is of significant interest in physics, as it enables the exploration of various topological nontrivial phenomena in a controllable manner.

Light‐Induced Quantum Anomalous Hall Effect on the 2D Surfaces of 3D Topological Insulators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2021
Quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect generates quantized electric charge Hall conductance without external magnetic field. It requires both nontrivial band topology and time‐reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking.

Grain-boundary topological phase transitions [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2020
Significance We reveal the existence of a topological phase transition (Kosterlitz–Thouless type) in grain boundaries (GBs)—important internal surfaces in crystalline materials. GB dynamics are controlled by the formation/migration of line defects (disconnections) with dislocation and step character.

Bandgap-assisted quantum control of topological edge states in a cavity

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2020
Quantum matter with exotic topological order has potential applications in quantum computation. However, in present experiments, the manipulations on topological states are still challenging.

Topology and Phase Transitions: Paradigmatic Evidence [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2000
We report upon the numerical computation of the Euler characteristic χ(a topologic invariant) of the equipotential hypersurfaces Σ_v of the configuration space of the two-dimensional lattice $ϕ^4$ model. The pattern χ(Σ_v) vs. v (potential energy) reveals that a major topology change in the family {Σ_v}_{v\in R} is at the origin of the phase transition
