Soap Bubbles in Outer Space: Interaction of a Domain Wall with a Black Hole [PDF]
We discuss the generalized Plateau problem in the 3+1 dimensional Schwarzschild background. This represents the physical situation, which could for instance have appeared in the early universe, where a cosmic membrane (thin domain wall) is located near a

We introduce the notion of a topological symmetry as a quantum mechanical symmetry involving a certain topological invariant. We obtain the underlying algebraic structure of the ℤ2-graded uniform topological symmetries of types (1, 1) and (2, 1). This leads to a novel derivation of the algebras of supersymmetry and p = 2 parasupersymmetry.

Composite Topological Objects in Topological Superfluids [PDF]
Superfluid phases of $^3$He discovered in 1972 opened the new area of the application of topological methods to condensed matter systems. Due to the multi-component order parameter which characterizes the broken $SO(3)\times SO(3)\times U(1)$ symmetry in these phases, there are many inhomogeneous objects -- textures and defects in the order parameter ...

Topological photonics is a rapidly emerging field of research in which geometrical and topological ideas are exploited to design and control the behavior of light. Drawing inspiration from the discovery of the quantum Hall effects and topological insulators in condensed matter, recent advances have shown how to engineer analogous effects also for ...

A Spin-Statistics Theorem for Certain Topological Geons [PDF]
We review the mechanism in quantum gravity whereby topological geons, particles made from non-trivial spatial topology, are endowed with nontrivial spin and statistics.

Specificity and Stability in Topology of Protein Networks [PDF]
Molecular networks guide the biochemistry of a living cell on multiple levels: Its metabolic and signaling pathways are shaped by the network of interacting proteins, whose production, in turn, is controlled by the genetic regulatory network.

Topological Algebras and Mackey Topologies [PDF]
Let E be a locally m-convex algebra with dual space E ′ E’ . In a recent paper S. Warner asked if the finest locally m-convex topology on E compatible with E ′ E’ was the mackey topology. It is shown that this is not the case.

An Intrisic Topology for Orthomodular Lattices [PDF]
We present a general way to define a topology on orthomodular lattices. We show that in the case of a Hilbert lattice, this topology is equivalent to that induced by the metrics of the corresponding Hilbert space.

Supernovae observations and cosmic topology [PDF]
Two fundamental questions regarding our description of the Universe concern the geometry and topology of its 3-dimensional space. While geometry is a local characteristic that gives the intrinsic curvature, topology is a global feature that characterizes

The Bi-Compact-Open Topology on C(X)
For the set C(X) of real-valued continuous functions on a Tychonoff space X, the compact-open topology on C(X) is a "set-open topology". This paper studies the separation and countability properties of the space C(X) having the topology given by the join
