Multi-objective robust topology optimization with dynamic weighting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A common robust topology optimization is formulated as a weighted sum of expected and variance of the objective functions for the given uncertainties. This has recently been applied to topology optimization with uncertainties in loading, [1]. Figure 1(a)

X‐Ray Computed Tomography Quantifies Primary Phases and Reveals Crack Morphology in High‐Cycle Fatigue of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Primary phases and a fatigue crack are studied in a forged blank of an aluminum alloy using synchrotron and laboratory X‐ray computed tomography. To image the crack, the fatigue test is interrupted, and a static tensile load is applied to open the crack.

Topological Portfolio Selection and Optimization

open access: yes4th ACM International Conference on AI in Finance, 2023
Modern portfolio optimization is centered around creating a low-risk portfolio with extensive asset diversification. Following the seminal work of Markowitz, optimal asset allocation can be computed using a constrained optimization model based on empirical covariance. However, covariance is typically estimated from historical lookback observations, and

A Simulative Approach for the Prediction of Mesoscale Residual Stress Fields in Solution‐Strengthened Ferritic Ductile Iron

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a 3D representative volume element‐based simulation approach to predict mesoscopic residual stress and strain fields in silicon solid solution‐strengthened ductile cast iron. By modeling phase transformation kinetics with an enhanced Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov model, the effects of varying cooling rates on residual stresses are ...

Combining Metal Additive Manufacturing and Casting Technology: High Performance Cooling Channels for Electric Powertrain Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
When realized as inserts in high‐pressure die casting, aluminum cooling channels for electric powertrain components and similar applications typically require a stabilizing filler to survive the process. The present study investigates relinquishing this filler using additively manufactured inserts promising performance improvements.

Electronic Control System for Optimized Resonance Operation of Dielectric Elastomer Pumps through Self‐Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A powerful electronic control system enables a dielectric elastomer pump to operate at resonance, matching conventional pump performance. Using self‐sensing to reconstruct load pressure dynamically, the adaptive control adjusts resonance frequency accordingly.
