By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Research on Monitoring Topping Time of Cotton Based on AdaBoost+Decision Tree

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2022
Topping is an important part in cotton field management, the spraying time has a great impact on cotton quality. In agricultural production, the strategy of timing the cotton topping mainly relies on manual inspections and experience, which is lack of ...

Top Incomes and Top Taxes in Germany [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2006
We analyze the distribution and taxation of top incomes in Germany during the 1990s on the basis of individual tax returns data. We derive a measure of economic income from taxable gross income as reported in the tax returns. Thanks to complete sampling, we can deliver a very precise description of very high incomes, in terms of both distribution and ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

A Biomechanical Comparison of 2 Different Topping-off Devices and Their Influence on the Sacroiliac Joint Following Lumbosacral Fusion Surgery [PDF]

open access: yesNeurospine
Objective Interspinous spacer (ISS)-based and pedicle screw-rod dynamic fixator (PDF)-based topping-off devices have been applied in lumbar/lumbosacral fusion surgeries for preventing the development of proximal adjacent segment degeneration.

Techniques for Reducing the Abundance of Spring–Summer Flush Shoots in Southern Spanish Orange Orchards

open access: yesHorticulturae, 2021
The Mediterranean Basin is the second highest citrus growing region in the world behind China. Citrus trees are known to produce several flush shoots per year, particularly during the spring–summer season.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

EFFECT OF TIME AND FREQUENCY OF TOPPING ON STORAGE ROOT AND CUTTING PRODUCTION OF A BUSHY SWEET POTATO CULTIVAR

open access: yesAnnals of Tropical Research, 1988
The effect of topping on storage root and apical stem cutting production of a bushy sweet potato cultivar (VSP-2) was studied. In the first experiment, all terminal cuttings at least 16 cm long were cut either at 38, 45, 52, or 59 days after planting ...

Chemical Topping and Planting Density Interactively Affect Cotton Growth and Partitioning Index

open access: yesAgronomy
Due to the labor shortage, replacing manual topping with chemical topping has become an important practice in cotton-producing areas such as Xinjiang, China. Similarly, increasing planting density is a common strategy to enhance cotton yields. This study
