Free vibrations of toroidal shells.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series C, 1985
In this paper, the free vibrations of toroidal shells with circular cross section are analyzed by using a thin shell theory. The equations of motion and the boundary conditions are derived from the stationary conditions of the Lagrangian of the toroidal shell.

Nonlinear postbuckling behavior of auxetic-core toroidal shell segments with Graphene reinforced face sheets under axial loads

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2022
The main aim of this paper is to provide an analytical approach for the nonlinear buckling behaviors of toroidal shell segments made by three layers included honeycomb auxetic-core and two Graphene reinforced face sheets under axial compressive or ...

Standing Alfvén waves with m ≫ 1 in an axisymmetric magnetosphere excited by a stochastic source [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 1998
In the framework of an axisymmetric magnetospheric model, we have constructed a theory for broad-band standing Alfvén waves with large azimuthal wave number m » 1 excited by a stochastic source.

Effects of toroidal transition on strength and stability of submarine's cone-cone connection structure

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2020
[Objectives] The cone-toroid-cone structure is a new type of structure to solve the problem of stress concentration at the joint of two conical shells with different angles in a pressure hull of submarine.

A study of L-dependent Pc3 pulsations observed by low Earth orbiting CHAMP satellite [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2010
Field line resonances (FLR) driven by compressional waves are an important mechanism for the generation of ULF geomagnetic pulsations observed at all latitudes during local daytime.

Effects of toroidal transition on ultimate bearing capacity of submarine cone-cone connection structures

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2020
[Objectives] The influence of the toroidal transition on the ultimate load-carrying capacity of ribbed cone-cone connections is studied by finite element methed.[Methods] The arc length method is used to calculate the ultimate load-carrying capacity of ...

Free in-plane and out-of-plane vibrations of rotating thin ring based on the toroidal shell theory

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2018
In this paper rigorous formulae for natural frequencies of in-plane and out-of-plane free vibrations of a rotating ring are derived. An in-plane vibration mode of the ring is characterised by coupled flexural and extensional deformations, whereas an out ...

Toroidal-poloidal partitioning of plate motions since 120 MA [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Changes in plate motions and plate configurations during the Cenozoic and Mesozoic have been investigated extensively, but most geodynamical models have concentrated on present-day plate motions.

Driving mechanisms for subsiding shells in simulations of deep moist convection [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics
Downdrafts play an essential role in the feedback between convective clouds and their surrounding environment, and they must be properly accounted for in cumulus parameterizations (CPs).
