Minimization of Torque Ripple in PWM AC Drives

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2009
A pulsewidth modulation (PWM) technique is proposed for minimizing the RMS torque ripple in inverter-fed induction motor drives subject to a given average switching frequency of the inverter. The proposed PWM technique is a combination of optimal continuous modulation and discontinuous modulation.

ASCOT Modelling of Ripple Effects on Toroidal Torque

Contributions to Plasma Physics, 2008
AbstractToroidal field ripple, δ =(Bmax ‐Bmin )/(Bmax +Bmin ), in ITER will be relatively large, about 0.5% at the outer midplane. Due to the importance of toroidal rotation on plasma stability and confinement it is important to understand the consequences of a non‐negligible ripple field on rotation.

Torque ripple minimization in direct-drive systems

Proceedings. 1998 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems. Innovations in Theory, Practice and Applications (Cat. No.98CH36190), 2002
The open-loop torque control of synchronous motors with minimum torque ripple and minimum copper losses is presented. The control problem is viewed as an optimization problem for the nonlinear mapping from desired torque and position to the motor's phase currents.

Torque ripple reduction of a variable flux motor

2016 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2016
This paper examines torque ripple in a new topology of variable flux machine with AlNiCo magnet. To reduce the torque ripple, the design and finite element modeling of this machine are reviewed and the finite element model results are verified with the prototyped motor. The effects of various electrical, magnetic and geometrical parameters such as load,

Torque ripple and misalignment torque compensation for the built-in torque sensor of harmonic drive systems

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 1998
A harmonic drive is a compact, lightweight, and high-ratio torque transmission device which is used in many electrically actuated robot manipulators. In this paper a built-in torque sensor for harmonic-drive systems is examined in detail. The method proposed by Hashimoto, in which strain gauges are directly mounted on the flexspline, is employed and ...

A novel torque-ripple reduction strategy for direct torque control [of induction motor]

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2001
This letter presents a simple duty-cycle control scheme for the direct torque control of an induction motor. The scheme reduces torque ripple, controls the average output torque, and reduces the variation in switching frequency. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is demonstrated through experimental results.

Auto-compensation of torque ripple of DD motor by torque observer

Conference Record of the 1991 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2002
A torque control system for DDM (direct drive motor) with a permanent magnet rotor equipped with a torque observer implemented by software of a digital signal processor is proposed. The speed fluctuation against a disturbance can be fully removed with a torque feedforward loop.

Torque Ripple Minimization for Induction Motor Drives with Direct Torque Control

Electric Power Components and Systems, 2004
Direct torque control (DTC) schemes can produce quick and robust responses, but they usually behave like hysteresis controllers. Consequently there are similar problems like non constant switching frequencies and high torque ripple especially when operation conditions result in low switching frequencies.

Modeling of Torque Ripple for Integrated Robotic Joint

2019
The torque ripple that leads to vibration greatly affects the performance of robotic joint like motion accuracy. However, the torque ripple models currently used in feedforward control are incomprehensive because only motor or harmonic drive torque ripple of the joint is considered.
