Torsion of the Wandering Spleen

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2009
Wandering spleen, defined as a spleen without its usual peritoneal attachments, is a rare entity. We report a 34-year-old woman with acute abdomen due to torsion of the long vascular pedicle of a wandering spleen, displaced in the abdominal cavity, and ...

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

A generalization of torsion to modules [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
The concepts of torsion and torsion-free objects have their origins in abelian group theory, where for an abelian group G the torsion subgroup T(G) of G is defined by T(G) = {x ?

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

A Novel Use of Optical Coherence Tomography for the Assessment of Ocular Torsion

open access: yes, 2019
Abnormal ocular torsion is most frequently the result paresis of the fourth cranial nerve. The presence of torsion can be a barrier to fusion, in which case, surgical intervention is required for a patient to have single vision.

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

Verification of the Photogrammetric Approach on the Torsion Test Method for Timber Beams

open access: yes, 2022
The photogrammetric approach was proposed in this study to evaluate torsional behaviour of glulam timber beams during the torsion test. The main objectives of the experimental work were to investigate the applicability of the photogrammetric approach on ...

Comparison of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Energy Absorbers Under Uniaxial Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates LCD 3D printed Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) structures as mechanical energy absorbers. By comparing various base designs and layered combinations under uniaxial compression, it identifies that a Diamond‐Gyroid sandwich structure offers superior performance.
