Torsional impact of elastic spheres

Archive of Applied Mechanics, 1994
The collision of two geometrically and materially similar elastic spheres, which are rotating around the common normal of their contact area, is analysed. The torsional rotation at the end of impact is obtained from numerical integration of the angular equation of motion and the contact law.

Impact Torsion Experiments

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1955
In 1936, the author, working under Professor W. Mason, attempted to obtain a complete torque-time curve for impulsive torsional fracture and thus to obtain quantitative information on both yield and rupture phenomena. The forces were measured by piezo-electric methods and recorded photographically against a uniform time base.

Torsional Impacts on Quaterthiophene Segments Confined within Peptidic Nanostructures

Langmuir, 2019
The co-assembly behavior of peptide-π-peptide and peptide-alkyl-peptide triblock molecules that form one-dimensional (1D) nanostructures under acidic, aqueous environments is dependent on the peptide sequence and the torsional constraints imposed within the nanomaterial volume.

Impact of Neighboring Chains on Torsional Defects in Oligothiophenes

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2012
Conjugated organic oligomers are central to the development of efficient organic electronic devices and organic photovoltaics. However, the torsional flexibility of many of these organic materials, in particular oligothiophenes, can adversely affect charge transfer properties.

Impact of torsional micropulse on phacoemulsification efficiency and chatter

Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2019
Evaluate the effect of increasing ultrasound (US) power on chatter events and efficiency under both continuous and micropulse torsional US to reduce total cataract extraction times. In vitro laboratory study.Porcine lens nuclei were incubated in formalin for 2 hours and then cut into 2-mm cubes.

Experimental study of torsional impact fatigue of shafts

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2007
Abstract This paper presents a methodology to study the fatigue strength of shafts under repeated impacts. The equipment for repeated impacts was designed for torsion tests of shafts for the same loading conditions as in service. The stress concentration effect, due to a fillet radius between square and circular cross-sections of the axle, was ...

Impact of shaft torsionals in steam turbine control

IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 1989
Shaft torsional vibrations are discussed along with their effect on steam turbine-generator control following severe supply-network disturbances and the destabilization of shaft torsional modes through the action of high-speed electrohydraulic controllers.

Impact of fibular torsion and rotation on chronic ankle instability

Foot and Ankle Surgery, 2014
The fibula is known not to involve in transmission of weight but known simply as an ankle stabilizer. However, its main function in stabilizing the ankle remains obscure. Since the fibula has an impact on torsion and rotation of the ankle, its effect on lateral ankle instability should be investigated.Twenty patients with lateral ankle instability ...

Torsion in Quadrupeds and Its Impact on Mammalian Joints

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1994
Congenital and acquired torsion occur in the limbs of domestic animals. Congenital abnormalities are of clinical significance in foals; they are also seen in calves whose dams have ingested certain toxic plants that contain teratogenic agents. Acquired torsional deformities are most common in foals, but are also observed in adult horses, dogs, and ...

Impact of Torsional and Bending Inertia on Root Canal Instruments

Journal of Endodontics, 2001
The laws of applied mechanics can be used to analyze and predict the behavior of mechanical parts subjected to strain and distortion, such as endodontic instruments. Simple mathematical formulas can be used to represent the impact of torsional and bending inertias on stresses in endodontic instruments being used in root canals.
