Nonlinear evolution of torsional Alfvén waves [PDF]
Aims. We study the efficiency of the energy transfer to shorter scales in the field-aligned direction – the parallel nonlinear cascade – that accompanies the propagation of torsional Alfven waves along open magnetic fields in the solar and stellar coronae, and compare it with the same effects for the shear Alfven wave.

Photospheric magnetic vortex structures [PDF]
Using direct numerical magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) simulations, we demonstrate the evidence of two physically different types of vortex motions in the solar photosphere.

Nonlinear long-wavelength torsional Alfvén waves [PDF]
Aims. We investigate the nonlinear phenomena accompanying long-wavelength torsional waves in solar and stellar coronae. Methods. The second order thin flux-tube approximation is used to determine perturbations of a straight untwisted and non-rotating magnetic flux-tube, nonlinearly induced by long-wavelength axisymmetric magnetohydrodynamic waves of ...

Torsional waves in a bowed string
Bowing a string with a non-zero radius exerts a torque, which excites torsional waves. In general, torsional standing waves have higher fundamental frequencies than do transverse standing waves, and there is generally no harmonic relationship between them. Although torsional waves have little direct acoustic effect, the motion of the bow-string contact

Nonlinear Evolution of Short-wavelength Torsional Alfvén Waves [PDF]
Abstract We analyze nonlinear evolution of torsional Alfvén waves in a straight magnetic flux tube filled in with a low-β plasma, and surrounded with a plasma of lower density. Such magnetic tubes model, in particular, a segment of a coronal loop or a polar plume. The wavelength is taken comparable to the tube radius.

Torsional vibration analysis of automotive drivelines [PDF]
One of the most important source of noise and vibrations associated with vehicles is the vibration of driveline systems. Such phenomena are subjectively associated with customer complaints.

Nonlinear Hysteretic Torsional Waves [PDF]
We theoretically study and experimentally report the propagation of nonlinear hysteretic torsional pulses in a vertical granular chain made of cm-scale, self-hanged magnetic beads. As predicted by contact mechanics, the torsional coupling between two beads is found nonlinear hysteretic. This results in a nonlinear pulse distortion essentially different

Torsional Alfvén waves in the Earth's core [PDF]
Torsional Alfvén waves are theoretically predicted to exist in Earth's outer core, have been inferred from geophysical data and observed in geodynamo simulations.

pp-waves with torsion and metric-affine gravity [PDF]
A classical pp-wave is a 4-dimensional Lorentzian spacetime which admits a nonvanishing parallel spinor field; here the connection is assumed to be Levi-Civita. We generalise this definition to metric compatible spacetimes with torsion and describe basic properties of such spacetimes. We use our generalised pp-waves for constructing new explicit vacuum
