Recent advancements of total aortic arch replacement [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2012
Recent advancements in total aortic arch replacement achieved by our approach were presented. From January 2002 to December 2010, 321 consecutive patients (mean age 69.8 ± 13.3 years) underwent total arch replacement through a median sternotomy at our institute.

Total Aortic Arch Replacement and Frozen Elephant Trunk

Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2021
Aortic arch pathologies have been a surgical challenge, involving cerebral, visceral and myocardial protection. Innovative techniques including total arch replacement and frozen elephant trunk had evolved over last decades with promising mid-term outcomes.

Impact of reimplantation technique of supra-aortic branches in total arch replacement on stroke rate and survival: results from the ARCH registry. [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Cardio-thoracic Surgery, 2018
OBJECTIVES Our objective was to evaluate the impact of reimplantation techniques of the supra-aortic branches in total arch replacement on the rates of permanent neurological deficit (PND) and survival. METHODS We identified patients enrolled in

Total Aortic Arch Replacement

Seminars in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, 2016
We review the operative techniques of aortic arch replacement. Aortic arch replacement presents several formidable challenges, as it requires arresting the circulation to the body and replacement of the brachiocephalic vessels with special consideration for protecting the central nervous system.

Total Arch Replacement for a Distal Aortic Arch Aneurysm With Right Aortic Arch

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2007
Right-sided aortic arch accompanied by an aberrant origin of the left subclavian artery is rare and seen in 0.05% approximately 0.1% of the population. A 73-year-old woman with this anomaly was admitted to our institution because of the enlargement of the distal aortic arch aneurysm. She also had mild dysphagia.

Total aortic arch replacement by a cryopreserved aortic homograft

European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 1995
The case is presented of a 60-year-old man with previous surgery on the transverse aorta and a pseudoaneurysm of the aortic arch and hemoptysis. The patient was operated upon with cardiopulmonary bypass and cerebral perfusion. The aortic arch was resected preserving a cuff of the aorta containing the three supra-aortic trunks.

Technical advances in total aortic arch replacement

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2004
We compared the effects of using hypothermic circulatory arrest (HCA) alone, HCA combined with selective cerebral perfusion (SCP), and use of SCP with a trifurcated graft (T) on outcome after aortic arch repair. One hundred fifty patients, median age 66 years (range, 27 to 85), underwent total arch replacement between 1988 and 2002; 75 were female.

Contemporary Results of Total Aortic Arch Replacement

Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 2004
Aneurysmal dilatation of the aortic arch is uncommon, and the complex anatomy involved imposes unique technical challenges. The results of surgical intervention reported from large centers are improving; however, the degree to which these results are reproducible by other surgeons is less clear.

Total Aortic Arch Replacement in Patients With Arch Vessel Anomalies

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2006
The presence of anomalous arch vessels has considerable impact on aortic arch reconstruction techniques and cerebral protection methods when the separated graft technique is adopted to perform total arch replacement. We analyzed our experience of total arch replacement in patients with arch vessel anomalies.Among the 220 patients undergoing total arch ...

Simultaneous total arch replacement and abdominal aortic surgery

The Japanese Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2001
It is common to encounter patients with coexisting aortic arch aneurysm and abdominal aortic lesions. We conducted simultaneous total arch replacement and abdominal aortic surgery in 3 patients having such lesions. Mean operative time was 511 minutes and no in-hospital mortality occurred. Postoperative respiratory failure was observed in an 80-year-old
