Comparing plasma and faecal measures of steroid hormones in Adelie penguins Pygoscelis adeliae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Physiological measurements of both stress and sex hormones are often used to estimate the consequences of natural or human-induced change in ecological studies of various animals.

Dual‐Functional Ingestible Passive Capsules for High‐Throughput Intestinal Sampling with Sealed Containment and Targeted Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
To address challenges in high‐throughput intestinal sampling with sealed containment and target drug delivery, we developed a dual‐functional ingestible passive capsule with a dual‐triggered control system based on pH‐response and mechanical actuation.

Tumbling Magnetic Microrobots for Targeted In Vivo Drug Delivery in the GI Tract

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We introduce a microrobot design and integrated system for on‐demand targeted drug release in the gastrointestinal tract. The microrobot has an embedded magnet for actuation with external magnetic fields and is visualized in real time using ultrasound. It has two drug release ports sealed with a thermally sensitive wax. Local heating of the wax using a

The effect of bambermycin, carbadox, chlortetracycline and olaquindox on antibiotic resistance in intestinal coliforms: a new animal model [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Groups of germ-free mice kept in isolators and associated with faecal microflora from piglets were continuously given either water or a solution of one of the following: chlortetracycline (20 micrograms/ml), carbadox (50 micrograms/ml), olaquindox (50 ...

Germination, Vigor of Seeds and Emergence of Fabaceae Seedling in Bovine Faeces

open access: yes, 2014
This study was conducted to evaluate the physiological quality of forage seeds after passage through the gastrointestinal tract of cattle, as well as the emergence of seedlings derived from these seeds. Three Fabaceae species were used: tropical kudzu,

High Humidity Exacerbates Psoriasiform Skin Disease Relapse by Increasing Tissue‐Resident Memory T Cells via Altering Skin Microbiota

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrated that high humidity worsened psoriasis relapse in murine psoriasiform skin inflammation by increasing skin‐resident memory CD8+ cells via upregulating IL‐15Rα on keratinocytes. The increases in IL‐15Rα and memory CD8+ cells were attributed to S. nepalensis and its metabolite ADMA in skin exposed to high humidity.

Development of an Indexed Score to Identify the Most Suitable Biological Material to Assess SARS-CoV-2

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Introduction: The rapidly contagious process of respiratory viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 makes it urgent to multiply testing for diagnostics to identify the active viral shedding cases (current infection, carriage state or, residual viral RNA) and decrease
