Adaptive ultrasonic imaging with the total focusing method for inspection of complex components immersed in water [PDF]
In this paper, we propose an ultrasonic adaptive imaging method based on the phased-array technology and the synthetic focusing algorithm Total Focusing Method (TFM). The general principle is to image the surface by applying the TFM algorithm in a semi-infinite water medium.

Effects of array transducer inconsistencies on total focusing method imaging performance
NDT & E International, 2011The total focusing method (TFM) is a post-processing imaging algorithm for ultrasonic array data in which the array is synthetically focused at every image pixel. In this paper, the performance of the TFM imaging algorithm is examined in the presence of inter-element variability in the array, coupling and instrumentation.

Dijkstra’s algorithm-based ray tracing method for total focusing method imaging of CFRP laminates
Composite Structures, 2019Abstract Accurate determination of ultrasonic travel time from a start point to an end point with known positions is fundamental to the application of total focusing method (TFM) to ultrasonic array imaging. However, this is particularly challenging for CFRP laminates whose wave propagation is complex due to material anisotropy and refractive ply ...

Use of the Total Focusing Method with the Envelope Feature
Materials Evaluation, 2020This paper presents how to compute the envelope of a total focusing method (TFM) image and the benefits of using this TFM envelope as part of a code-compliant solution. The TFM envelope is obtained by computing the norm of two different TFM images; namely, a first TFM image computed using the standard acquired full matrix capture (FMC), and a second ...

Fast total focusing method for ultrasonic imaging
2015 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), 2015This work deals with advanced and fast imaging techniques using phased array probes for non destructive evaluation or medical imaging. These methods employ a large amount of summations in order to focus at each pixel of the reconstruction image, which often represent a prohibitive computational cost. We present two acceleration methods, i.e.

Fast total focusing method by a migration approach
2015 IEEE Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT), 2015The Total Focusing method is an efficient approach to perform ultrasonic imaging of industrial components. It consists in focusing at each point of a reconstruction area by applying coherent summations. The main issue of this method is the computation time which makes real-time imaging difficult for large images.

Simulation of the Application of Compressive Sensing to Ultrasound Total Focusing Method Imaging
2020 15th Symposium on Piezoelectrcity, Acoustic Waves and Device Applications (SPAWDA), 2021In order to lower the sampling rate and to reduce the huge amount of data in imaging of phased array total focus method, an ultrasound detection imaging method is proposed which is based on compressive sensing. The “analog-information converter” (AIC) is introduced into ultrasonic phased array total focus method imaging system, which could recover the ...

Real-Time Total Focusing Method for Ultrasonic Imaging of Multilayered Object
2018 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2018In imaging of multilayered object, total focusing method (TFM) combined with ray-tracing appeals to numerous researchers because of its superior image quality. But lots of iterative computation to calculate the incident points greatly increases its processing time.
