The free energy of biomembrane and nerve excitation and the role of anesthetics

open access: yes, 2018
In the electromechanical theory of nerve stimulation, the nerve impulse consists of a traveling region of solid membrane in a liquid environment. Therefore, the free energy necessary to stimulate a pulse is directly related to the free energy difference ...

Cinnamic‐Hydroxamic‐Acid Derivatives Exhibit Antibiotic, Anti‐Biofilm, and Supercoiling Relaxation Properties by Targeting Bacterial Nucleoid‐Associated Protein HU

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cinnamic‐hydroxamic‐acid derivatives (CHADs) are identified as novel inhibitors of the bacterial nucleoid‐associated protein HU, exhibiting potent antibacterial, anti‐biofilm (both inhibition and eradication), and DNA relaxation (anti‐supercoiling) activities. Moreover, CHADs demonstrate strong synergistic effects with multiple antibiotics.

HRS Degradation‐Induced Nicotinamide Deficiency in Placental Extracellular Vesicles Triggers Preeclampsia by Disrupting Maternal‐Fetal Immune Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that lower NAM levels in PE‐derived pEVs correlate with disease severity. NAM‐deficient pEVs reduce Th1 and Th17 inhibition, leading to PE‐like symptoms. NAM in pEVs inhibits Th1 via SIRT1 and Th17 via macrophages. Reduced NAM in PE‐EVs is due to decreased HRS expression in trophoblasts, resulting from elevated HSP27.

Designing the ideal perioperative pain management plan starts with multimodal analgesia. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Multimodal analgesia is defined as the use of more than one pharmacological class of analgesic medication targeting different receptors along the pain pathway with the goal of improving analgesia while reducing individual class-related side effects ...

Prospect of Propofol-Total Intravenous Anesthesia

open access: yesTHE JOURNAL OF JAPAN SOCIETY FOR CLINICAL ANESTHESIA, 2007

PLA2G16‐Mediated Tetracosatetraenoic Acid Rewires Fatty Acid Oxidation to Impair CD8+ T Cell Immune Function in Promoting Breast Cancer Lung Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Illustrating how tumor‐derived PLA2G16 regulates tetracosatetraenoic acid (C24:4 (n‐6)) accumulation and CD8+ T cell activation via the C24:4‐PPARα‐FAO axis in early metastatic niches, thereby promoting lung metastasis of triple‐negative breast cancer.
