Assays for Total Protein

Current Protocols in Microbiology, 1995
AbstractThis unit describes three copper‐based assays to quantitate total protein: the biuret method, a variation of the Lowry method (Hartree‐Lowry method), and the bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay. Acid hydrolysis of a protein is coupled with ninhydrin detection to quantitate amino acid content of a sample.

CSF Total Protein

2015
The CSF total protein concentration is used in emergency diagnostics as a rough evaluation tool for the blood-CSF barrier function that may be disturbed by reduced CSF turnover occurring in different diseases such as purulent meningitis, spinal canal stenosis or polyneuroradiculitis.

The Total Protein of Human Perilymph

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1969
Total protein values were determined from the perilymph of 47 cadaver ears. After subtraction of hemoglobin the average total protein for two series of 27 and 10 ears was 553 and 559 mg%, respectively. When the perilymph specimens were taken directly without freezing the average total protein figures were reduced to 280 (cochlea) or 312 mg% (vesti ...

Total Proteins in Human Amniotic Fluid

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1986
Summary: The study of the biochemical constituents of amniotic fluid is essential in the diagnosis of fetal disorders which result in high concentrations of metabolites in the fetal serum, that can be detected by amniotic fluid examination. The present study is based on the estimations of total protein concentration in the amniotic fluid of normal ...

Total chemical synthesis of proteins

Chem. Soc. Rev., 2009
This tutorial review outlines the modern ligation methods that enable the efficient total chemical synthesis of enzymes and other protein molecules. Key to this success is the chemoselective reaction of unprotected synthetic peptides ('chemical ligation').

C-reactive protein level after total hip and total knee replacement

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1998
Our study has determined the response of C-reactive protein (CRP) after total knee replacement (TKR). The peak level occurs on the second postoperative day and is significantly greater than that after total hip replacement (THR). The level returns to normal at similar times after both procedures.

Total Protein Extraction with TCA-Acetone

2006
We describe a procedure allowing extraction of total proteins that performs efficiently with a large variety of plant tissues, based on simultaneous precipitation and denaturation with TCA and 2ME in cold acetone. We also describe protein solubilization prior to IEF, either in classical rod gels or in IPGs, using two different solutions.
