Beta1 subunits enable fentanyl‐induced BK channel activation and opioid regulation of cerebral artery diameter

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
During the current opioid crisis, the majority of overdose deaths are attributed to ultra‐potent synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl. While fentanyl exerts its action via opioid receptors, we propose that potassium channels in the brain blood vessels may also sense fentanyl.

Data-Driven PM2.5 Exposure Prediction in Wildfire-Prone Regions and Respiratory Disease Mortality Risk Assessment

open access: yesFire
Wildfires generate substantial smoke containing fine particulate matter (PM2.5) that adversely impacts health. This study develops machine learning models integrating pre-wildfire factors like weather and fuel conditions with post-wildfire health impacts

Tracheal Stenosis After Endotracheal Intubation and Percutaneous Dilatational Tracheostomy

open access: yesBengal Journal of Otolaryngology and Head Neck Surgery, 2020
Introduction Tracheal stenosis is an abnormal narrowing of the tracheal lumen which affects adequate airflow and caused by an inflammatory complication such as endotracheal intubation and percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT).

Bioinspired Adaptive Artificial Cilia With Tunable Sensitivity and Dynamic Range for Airflow Monitoring in the Central Airway

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A magnetically reconfigurable airflow sensor integrated with an airway stent enables tunable sensitivity and dynamic sensing range. Airflow‐induced cantilever deformation generates resistance changes, while an external magnetic field modulates sensor stiffness, enhancing sensitivity at low airflow velocities and extending the sensing range at higher ...

Real‐Time Holographic Feedback via Mixed Reality Sensorized Laryngoscope Training System Enhances Pediatric Intubation Training

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We proposed a Mixed Reality Sensorized Laryngoscope Training System to provide real‐time holographic torque feedback during pediatric endotracheal intubation simulation. Visualization formats are evaluated to reduce tracking error and visual demand.

Tracheal tumours [PDF]

open access: yesPostgraduate Medical Journal, 1969
SummaryA brief review of the incidence, clinical features and diagnosis of tracheal tumours is made, and details of ten cases which recently occurred in South East England, are presented and discussed. Theories accounting for the relative rarity of malignant lesions at this site are considered.
