Organization of the histaminergic system in the brain of the teleost, Trachurus trachurus

Journal of Comparative Neurology, 1991
AbstractTo accumulate phylogenetic information on the central histaminergic system, we investigated the histaminergic system in the brain of a teleost, the jack mackerel (Trachurus trachurus), using the indirect immunofluorescent method with antiserum against histamine.

Seasonal variation in the chemical composition of horse-mackerel ( Trachurus trachurus )

European Food Research and Technology, 2001
Chemical analysis was performed on samples of horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus L.) caught monthly off the Portuguese coast throughout a period of one year (May 1997–April 1998). In the period between August and January the amount of total lipids present was recorded showing a minimum in February.

Population genetic studies of horse mackerel Trachurus trecae and Trachurus trachurus capensis off Angola

South African Journal of Marine Science, 2002
Genetic variability of the Kunene horse mackerel Trachurus trecae and the Cape horse mackerel Trachurus trachurus capensis was examined using starch gel electrophoresis of enzymatic proteins on individuals collected along the Angolan coast. Six polymorphic enzyme loci were found in both species.

Sensorial and microbial effects of gaseous ozone on fresh scad (Trachurus trachurus)

Journal of Applied Microbiology, 1998
The bactericidal activity of gaseous ozone was investigated using a commercial ozone generator. Five species of fish bacteria, Pseudomonas putida, Shewanella putrefaciens, Brochothrix thermosphacta, Enterobacter sp. and Lactobacillus plantarum, were inoculated on agar surfaces and exposed to different ozonation times in a gas chamber.

Random or not? Comparing Microplastic Ingestion and Preys in Scomber colias and Trachurus trachurus

2023
Microplastics represent a rising threat to marine biota. As the fishing industry is a fundamental source of sustenance for human beings, microplastic ingestion by fish deserves appropriate attention. Despite previous studies suggest that the feeding behavior of different fish species may affect the occurrence and the diversity of ingested microplastic ...

Occurrence of larval anisakids in horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus) caught in Portuguese waters

Parasitology Research, 2020
The third-stage larvae (L3) of the Anisakidae family are parasitic nematodes with zoonotic impact and are frequently encountered in the organs and musculature of various fish intended for human consumption. Since Anisakis simplex (s.s.) and A. pegreffii are the major aetiological agents of human disease, this study aims to combine the morphological and

Interdecadal and spatial variations of diet composition in horse mackerel Trachurus trachurus

Journal of Fish Biology, 2011
Interdecadal variability of the diet composition of horse mackerel Trachurus trachurus was examined through analysis of the stomach contents of fish collected from the north-west and south of Portugal during 1990-1992 and 2005-2006. These decades correspond to periods of high and low feeding intensity of T. trachurus.
