Impacts of climate‐related stressors on social group cohesion and individual sociability in fish

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 99, Issue 6, Page 2035-2059, December 2024.
ABSTRACT Group‐living in animals comes with a number of benefits associated with predator avoidance, foraging, and reproduction. A large proportion of fish species display grouping behaviour. Fish may also be particularly vulnerable to climate‐related stressors including thermal variation, hypoxia, and acidification.

Can small pelagic fish landings be used as predictors of high-frequency oceanographic fluctuations in the 1–2 El Niño region? [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Geosciences, 2016
A group of small pelagic fish captured between 1981 and 2012 within El Niño area 1–2 by the Ecuadorian fleet was correlated with the oceanographic Multivariate ENSO Index (MEI), and the Oceanographic El Niño Index (ONI) referred to El Niño region 3–4.

Hyperostosis in Fishes: An Update With New Species Records

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 285, Issue 11, November 2024.
Hyperostosis is an enigmatic dimension of diversity in the anatomy of fishes. This excessive overgrowth of bone is natural in origin, occurs almost exclusively in marine fishes, is generally species‐specific, and becomes fully developed only in large individuals. We document hyperostosis in 35 families, 89 genera, and 153 species.

Age of Jack mackerel Trachrus murphyi (Carangidae) using daily growth rings in sagittae otoliths

open access: yesGayana, 2019
Growth of Jack mackerel (Trachurus murphyi) was estimated using daily growth rings in fish collected in central-south Chile from 2004 to 2011. The von Bertalanffy growth curve at length for both sexes (n=210 individuals) is FL = 75*[1-e-0.16(t+0 ...

Hydrophobic natural deep eutectic solvents for marine lipid extraction

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, Volume 101, Issue 3, Page 361-367, March 2024.
Abstract ‘Type V' natural deep eutectic solvents (TV NADES) are a novel class of solvent media with many potential ‘green chemistry’ applications. Here, we assess the potential of two TV NADES: menthol:carvacrol (M:C) and menthol:thymol (M:T), and a single terpenoid extraction media carvacrol (C), as media from total lipid extraction of three ...
