Communication of velocity changes in jack mackerel (Trachurus symmetricus) schools
Animal Behaviour, 1969Abstract The latency and the velocity of the response of jack mackerel, T. symmetricus , to a velocity change by a schooling companion was studied in the laboratory. Fish were tested in groups of two and six fish each. One fish in each group was given an electric shock; the responses of the other fish in the group to the increase in speed by the ...

LIPID DAMAGE DURING FROZEN STORAGE OF WHOLE JACK MACKEREL (TRACHURUS SYMMETRICUS MURPHYI)
Journal of Food Lipids, 2006ABSTRACT The damage on the lipid fraction of whole jack mackerel (Trachurus symmetricus murphyi, Carangidae) during 120 days of frozen storage was studied. The chemical composition was determined through proximate analysis. Lipid quality deterioration was evaluated by measuring free fatty acids, peroxide values, conjugated dienes and p‐anisidine values.

Effects of Light on Schooling and Feeding of Jack Mackerel,Trachurus symmetricus
Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1968Schools of six jack mackerel each were photographed with infrared film at eight levels of luminance and also in darkness. Three indices were used to measure the behavior of the school from motion pictures. Two of the indices, mean distance to nearest neighbor and mean separation distance, were measures of the distances between individuals in a school ...

The composition of the metazoan parasite communities within 2 fishing zones along the Chilean coast were compared to determine the population structure of the jack mackerel Trachurus symmetricus murphyi (Nichols) in these 2 geographical locations.

Fisheries Research, 2001
Abstract The relationship between age and otolith weight was examined in the Chilean jack mackerel, Trachurus symmetricus murphyi (Nichols). The purpose was to present evidence for the relationship in order to obtain a rapid and inexpensive method of ageing individuals of T. s. murphyi .
