Field investigation on load distribution and deflections of railway track sleepers

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2007
Despite the significant role of sleepers in railway track mechanical behavior, no thorough mechanistic approach has been presented for the development of the loading pattern they experience. The current theoretical methods in the analysis of the railway track system need further calibration and verification using field-measured data.

DEFLECTION PROFILE OF A NEW LIGHT RAIL TRACK SYSTEM.

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Transport, 1996
The design and analysis of rail track systems requires a knowledge of stress and displacements due to the combined action of the applied loads and environmental factors. A new low profile rail system (LR55) was found to be very capable of withstanding loading up to main line railway standard.

Track Deflections and Macroscopic Movement of Railway Embankment

Vehicle System Dynamics, 1995
SUMMARY Measurements were made under traffic of track deflections and of movement in the ground beneath railway track at an embankment which suffered chronically from rapidly deteriorating track geometry and from the need frequently to deposit ballast on the track.

Tracking deflection in the field using optical system: A case study

Safety and Reliability – Theory and Applications, 2017
Monitoring displacement of in operation bridges is practically challenging but potentially very useful for condition assessment and decision support. The primary difficulties are in finding fixed physical reference points and, for the majority short span bridges under normal operation, the mm-level magnitudes of displacement under normal operating ...

Strength and deflection of railway tracks: probabilistic finite element analysis

[1990] Proceedings. First International Symposium on Uncertainty Modeling and Analysis, 2002
The authors examine the vertical loads acting on the track from a probabilistic point of view to show how the vertical deflections of the track can be calculated and interpreted statistically in the context of the simple beam-on-elastic-foundation model.

Operational deflection shape of rotating object using tracking laser Doppler vibrometer

2015 IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems (ICECS), 2015
A method for tracking laser Doppler vibrometer (TLDV) is introduced for operational deflection shape (ODS) vibration measurement of a rotating object to take the advantage of tracking while an encoder is attached to the object. A digital signal processor (DSP) is used to capture the encoder angular position and calculating the signals required for ...

Tip-deflection Tracking of Flexible Manipulator through Equi-dominance Controller

2019 IEEE 16th India Council International Conference (INDICON), 2019
A control scheme based on equi-dominance criterion is proposed for flexible manipulator tip positioning. The flexible manipulator system with angular position controller is designed in such a way that the asymptotes of the inner-loop system pass through the zeros of the controller.

Evaluating the potential of a rolling deflection measurement system to estimate track modulus

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part F: Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit, 2016
Over the past two decades, a rolling deflection measurement system aiming to continuously measure the track modulus has been under development at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln under the sponsorship of the Federal Railroad Administration. This system measures the relative vertical distance (referred to as Y

Evaluating Track Stiffness and Rail Bending Moments using Vertical Track Deflection Measurements Considering the Effects of Track Geometry

2020
Vertical track stiffness (or track modulus) is generally accepted as one of the key structural properties of track which impacts the bearing capacity, dynamic response of passing trains, quality of track geometry, and track components’ life. Although it is known that track stiffness parameters can potentially provide useful information for track ...

Interaction of Typhoons with the Taiwan Orography. Part I: Upstream Track Deflections

Monthly Weather Review, 1993
Abstract A combined observational and numerical modeling approach is used to study the upstream track deflections of westward-moving tropical cyclones approaching the mountainous terrain of Taiwan. Although the standard deviations are large, the mean track deflections are larger and have a different orientation for storms approaching the southern end ...
