Pink noise of ionic conductance through single artificial nanopores revisited

open access: yes, 2010
We report voltage-clamp measurements through single conical nanopore obtained by chemical etching of a single ion-track in polyimide film. Special attention is paid on the pink noise of the ionic current (i.e. $1/f$ noise) measured with different filling

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

Non-archimedean Yomdin-Gromov parametrizations and points of bounded height

open access: yes, 2015
We prove an analogue of the Yomdin-Gromov Lemma for $p$-adic definable sets and more broadly in a non-archimedean, definable context. This analogue keeps track of piecewise approximation by Taylor polynomials, a nontrivial aspect in the totally ...

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...

Prediction of Rail Wear Under Different Railway Track Geometries Using Artificial Neural Networks

open access: yesInfrastructures
The geometry of the railway track affects rail wear significantly. If the rail wear can be predicted and considered during the alignment design phase, the problems it causes can be mitigated at the source by optimizing the values and combinations of ...

Study on Key Factors on Ride Comfort of Low-floor Light Rail Transit [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
In order to meet the public’s demand for higher and higher comfort level of low-floor trams, this paper analyzes the influence on comfort level from four aspects: equivalent conicity, hinge arrangement position, suspension parameters and track geometry ...

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Influences of Railway Track Geometry Parameters on Ground-Borne Vibration [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Railway Research, 2014
One of the most important challenges in the development of urban railways network is the effects of railway vibrations on human and adjacent structures. Although various investigations into the sources of railway vibrations have been conducted, very few ...

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.
