Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

New Transition Wedge Design Composed by Prefabricated Reinforced Concrete Slabs

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
Important track degradation occurs in structure-embankment transitions, in which an abrupt change in track vertical stiffness arises, leading to a reduction in passengers comfort and safety.

Sensitivity Analysis of Fastenings’ Types on Track\'s Life-Cycle [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Railway Research, 2014
During the study for the dimensioning as well as the selection of the individual materials constituting a  railway track, the ballast and the substructure present residual deformations, directly related to the  deterioration of the geometry of the track.

Multimodal Soft Surgical Robots Enabled by Eco‐Degradable, Sterilizable Polymers and Transient Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A compostable PGS soft surgical robot with interchangeable modules integrates transient Mo tactile and Si thermal sensors for dual feedback. The device preserves its function after clinical‐grade sterilization, demonstrates stable actuation and cardiac tissue grasping with real‐time in vivo pulsatile monitoring, and biodegrades post‐use with soil‐safe,
