Predictions of Optic Nerve Traction Forces and Peripapillary Tissue Stresses Following Horizontal Eye Movements.

open access: yesInvestigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, 2017
Purpose To use finite element (FE) analysis to predict the optic nerve sheath traction forces that act on the optic nerve head (ONH) following horizontal eye movements, and the resulting stress levels in the peripapillary connective tissues of the ONH ...

A general approach to posterior contraction in nonparametric inverse problems

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper we propose a general method to derive an upper bound for the contraction rate of the posterior distribution for nonparametric inverse problems.

Degradation-mediated cellular traction directs stem cell fate in covalently crosslinked three-dimensional hydrogels

open access: yesNature Materials, 2013
Although cell-matrix adhesive interactions are known to regulate stem cell differentiation, the underlying mechanisms, in particular for direct three-dimensional (3D) encapsulation within hydrogels, are poorly understood.

Dynamic Current Routing in Conductive Liquid Crystal Elastomers for Complex Deformation Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work introduces a novel actuation control strategy in which electrical stimulation generates localized Joule heating in conductive liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) surfaces, enabling complex 3D deformations from a single homogeneous surface without preprogramming.

Research on New Cutting-type Anti-climbers for Urban Rail Transit Vehicles

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
[Objective] Currently, the CAC (cutting-type anti-climber) faces the issue of excessively high initial peak cutting force, leading to cutting tool detachment or fracture and finally the anti-climber failure.

Traction alopecia: the root of the problem

open access: yesClinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, 2018
Traction alopecia (TA) affects one-third of women of African descent who wear various forms of traumatic hairstyling for a prolonged period of time. The risk of TA is increased by the extent of pulling and duration of traction, as well as the use of ...

Additive Manufacturing of Patient‐Specific Intracranial Aneurysm Cell Culture Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific intracranial aneurysm models were fabricated using chocolate moulding, 3D printed water‐soluble cores, and direct resin 3D printing. Moulding PDMS around sacrificial cores made of chocolate or 3D printed water‐soluble resin yielded accurate, expandable, and endothelializable models that outperformed resin‐based approaches.

Multiobjective Codesign Optimization of a Planar Pneumatic Artificial Muscle‐Based Snake‐Like Robot for Enhanced Agility and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...
