Finite-SNR diversity-multiplexing trade-off of inter-vehicular cooperative diversity protocols

open access: yes, 2014
The finite-signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) diversity-multiplexing trade-off (DMT) of cooperative diversity protocols are investigated in vehicular networks based on cascaded Rayleigh fading. Lower bounds of DMT at finite SNR for orthogonal and non-orthogonal

Minimal Important Change and Minimal Clinically Important Difference in Pain and Function With Exercise in Hip Osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective of this study was to estimate the minimal important change (MIC) and minimal clinically important difference (MCID) for pain and physical function in individuals with hip osteoarthritis (OA) following a physiotherapist‐guided exercise intervention.

Urbanization Intensified the Trade‐Off Between Food Security and Water Quality Security in the Yangtze River Delta

open access: yesEarth's Future
Rapid urbanization, while enhancing the living standards, posed significant challenges to food security (FS) and water quality security (WQS). Previous research mainly focused on assessing FS and WQS, remaining their trade‐off and driving pathway unclear.

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Scalability and Quality of Service: A Trade-off?

open access: yes, 2003
During the last decade, two big efforts on Internet quality of service were made. The first, IntServ, promises precise per-flow service provisioning but never really made it as a commercial end-user product, which was mainly accredited to its lack of ...

Evading the strength- ductility trade-off dilemma in steel through gradient hierarchical nanotwins

open access: yes, 2014
The strength-ductility trade-off has been a long-standing dilemma in materials science. This has limited the potential of many structural materials, steels in particular. Here we report a way of enhancing the strength of twinning-induced plasticity steel
