Traffic Calming Measures and Their Slowing Effect on the Pedestrian Refuge Approach Sections

open access: yesSustainability, 2023
The ever-increasing use of motor vehicles causes a number of traffic safety and community issues, which are particularly severe in cities, accompanied by a scarcity of parking spaces and challenges encountered in road layout alteration projects. The commonly applied solutions include the designation of through streets, the implementation of on-street ...

Proteomic Profiling of Primary Hippocampal Neurons Reveals Noncanonical GFAP Expression and Metabolic Adaptations in Glia‐Free Culture

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite their widespread use as a research model, a comprehensive, quantitative proteomic profile of the cultured hippocampal neurons has remained unexplored. Here, we provide the first global proteomic characterization of primary murine hippocampal neurons cultured for 14 days under near‐physiological glucose conditions (2.5 mM).

Present and future downslope windstorms in the Scandinavian Mountains from a kilometre‐scale climate model

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Kilometre‐scale climate simulations for Scandinavia indicate the importance of high resolution for reproducing downslope windstorms (DWs). Scandinavian DWs on average induce a limited local warming but with large variability due to the region's complex orography.

Observations and numerical simulations of a valley‐exit wind in the Alpine Bolzano basin

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
The evolution and spreading of the nocturnal valley‐exit wind flowing from the Isarco Valley into the Bolzano basin, in the Italian Alps, are found to be influenced by the basin temperature stratification. Measurements and high‐resolution simulations show that a cold‐air pool favors an upward trajectory of the flow at the exit of the valley.
