Train driver scheduling with windows of relief opportunities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Train driver scheduling is the problem of finding an assignment of drivers to cover all train vehicle work, such that cost is minimized while all constraints are satis¯ed.

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...

Enhancing Fairness in High-Speed Railway Crew Scheduling: A Two-Stage Heuristic Optimization Framework Under Daily-Adjusted Timetables

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The existing crew base assignment system in high-speed railway operations struggles to cope with the frequent deployment of additional and coupled trains under the “One-Day-One-Operation Plan” dynamic scheduling paradigm.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Shunting of Passenger Train Units in a Railway Station

open access: yes
In this paper we introduce the problem of shunting passenger trainunits in a railway station. Shunting occurs whenever train units aretemporarily not necessary to operate a given timetable.

Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.
