An overview of gill net and trammel net size selectivity in the Mediterranean Sea

Fisheries Research, 2020
Abstract Mediterranean is one of the world’s most heavily exploited seas, where more than 90 % of the assessed fish stocks are overfished. In this basin small scale fisheries (SSFs) play a major socioeconomic role in terms of fleet size, number of jobs and amount and value of landings.

Catching efficiency of gill nets and trammel nets for penaeid prawns

Fisheries Research, 2003
Abstract Fishing experiments were carried out with gill nets and trammel nets off Cochin, India, from June to August 1991 to determine the relative catching efficiency of these nets to penaeid prawns. A fleet of nets consisting of two sets of gill nets of polyamide (PA) monofilament and PA multifilament; and one set of PA multifilament trammel nets ...

Non‐commercial invertebrate discards in an experimental trammel net fishery

Fisheries Management and Ecology, 2008
Abstract  Non‐commercial invertebrate discards in an experimental trammel net fishery were studied in relation to selectivity of the gear, depth, soak time and season. Forty experimental fishing trials were carried out over a 1‐year period with six combinations of small mesh (100, 120 and 140 mm) inner and large mesh (600 and 800 mm) outer panels.

Estimating the entangling effect of trammel and semi-trammel net selectivity on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

Fisheries Research, 1992
Abstract The selectivity of gillnets and entangling nets (trammel and semi-trammel nets) was estimated directly by setting nets in outdoor tanks containing a known population of rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ). From the directly estimated selectivity, the entangling effect of the trammel and semitrammel nets was estimated using the gillnet as ...

Trammel nets’ ghost fishing off the Portuguese central coast

Fisheries Research, 2009
Abstract The loss of fishing gear has negative consequences to marine communities if the gear preserves its catching abilities for a significant period, a phenomenon called “ghost fishing”. The present study assessed the impact of lost trammel nets in both sandy and rocky bottoms in the central area of the Portuguese coast.
