Biophysical characterization of adeno-associated virus capsid through the viral transduction life cycle [PDF]
Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors have emerged as the leading delivery platforms for gene therapy. Throughout the life cycle of the virions, the capsid vector carries out diverse functions, ranging from cell surface receptor engagement, cellular entry, endosomal escape, nuclear import to new particle packaging, and assembly.

Elastic analysis bridges structure and dynamics of an AAA+ molecular motor. [PDF]
Proteins carry out cellular functions by changing their structure among a few conformations, each characterised by a different energy level. Therefore, structural changes, energy transformations, and protein function are intimately related.

Unique Biophysical Properties of an Inward Proton Current that Mediates Sour Taste Transduction [PDF]
Acidic solutions that are perceived as sour are detected by a subset of taste receptor cells on the tongue and palate epithelium that express the TRP channel PKD2L1. PKD2L1 does not form the sour receptor, but it can nonetheless serve as a molecular marker for sour taste receptor cells.

Acupuncture is one of the areas among the alternative therapies that arise high curiosity in the biomedical scientific community. It is particularly popular for treatment of chronic diseases and addictions. However, contrasting with its evidence-based effectiveness, the lack of reasonable explanations for its mode of action divides that scientific ...

Signal-Induced Inhibition of Telomerase Activity in HL60 Cancer Cells by Signal Transduction Using the Biophysically Activated Regulative Molecule 31 (RM31): A Pilot Study [PDF]
In this pilot study, we report the use of a novel, patented biophysical technology, which enables intranuclear access and cell nucleus stimulation, via the signal of the biophysically activated regulative molecule 31 (RM31). RM31 is the name of an isolated natural molecule found in the human body and is involved in many cellular mechanisms.

A biophysical approach to sensory transduction by vertebrate hair cells
An in vitro preparation of the bullfrog sacculus was developed, in which the macular epithelium was arranged as a septum between two chambers. Hair cells are stimulated by moving the overlying otolithic membrane with a glass stimulus probe; the response is recorded as the transepithelial current with the epithelium voltage-clamped.

Molecular principles underlying aggressive cancers
Aggressive tumors pose ultra-challenges to drug resistance. Anti-cancer treatments are often unsuccessful, and single-cell technologies to rein drug resistance mechanisms are still fruitless.

As a key mediator of chronic pain, neurotrophin nerve growth factor (NGF) binds to two neurotrophin receptors: p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75NTR) and tyrosine kinase receptor A (TrkA). The formation of the p75NTR-NGF-TrkA complex is implicated in the potentiation of chronic pain signals, making it an attractive target for therapeutic explorations.

Biophysics of Notch Signaling.
Notch signaling is a conserved system of communication between adjacent cells, influencing numerous cell fate decisions in the development of multicellular organisms. Aberrant signaling is also implicated in many human pathologies. At its core, Notch has
