Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

CoB/Ni-Based Multilayer Nanowire with High-Speed Domain Wall Motion under Low Current Control

open access: yes, 2012
The spin-transfer torque motion of magnetic domain walls (DWs) in a CoB/Ni-based nanowire driven by a low current density of (1.12\pm0.8)\times10^{11} A m^{-2} has been observed indirectly by magnetotransport measurements.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Permeability as an important parameter for radon risk classification of foundation soils

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2005
Permeability of soils and rocks for gases is one of the main parameters for final radon risk classification of building sites. For the improvement of the method for radon risk classification it is recommended to complete in situ measurements of

Cross-correlation trajectory study of V-V energy transfer in HF-HF and DF-DF [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
Results of a fully three‐dimensional classical trajectory calculation of vibrational energy transfer are presented for the collision of HF(v=1) with HF(v=1) and its deuterium analog.
