Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

y scaling in electron-nucleus scattering [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Data on inclusive electron scattering from A = 4, 12, 27, 56, 197 nuclei at large momentum transfer are presented and analyzed in terms of y scaling. We find that the data do scale for y 1), and we study the convergence of the scaling function with the ...

4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase in malaria parasites and enhances atovaquone efficacy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Atovaquone is an antimalarial requiring potentiation for sufficient efficacy. We pursued strategies to enhance its activity, showing that 4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase, decreasing ubiquinone biosynthesis. Since atovaquone competes with ubiquinol in mitochondria, 4‐nitrobenzoate facilitates its action, potentiating ...

Resonance frequency control using the rank-one perturbation of the self-compliance matrix at interface degrees of freedom

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2019
A design method of a strongly coupled vibration system is required for improving noise and vibration performance of machinery. One of the authors proposed that analysis of the self-compliance matrix at interface degrees of freedom between two systems ...

Unstained blood smear contrast enhancement using spectral time multiplexing super resolution

open access: yesJournal of Spectral Imaging, 2020
We report the use of Time Multiplexing Super Resolution (TMSR) to reduce significantly speckle noise in spectral imaging microscopy of unstained thin blood smear samples of malaria-infected blood.

A formula for the mean human optical modulation transfer function as a function of pupil size.

open access: yesJournal of Vision, 2013
We have constructed an analytic formula for the mean radial modulation transfer function of the best-corrected human eye as a function of pupil diameter, based on previously collected wave front aberrations from 200 eyes (Thibos, Hong, Bradley, & Cheng ...

Nonparametric transfer function models [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Econometrics, 2010
In this paper a class of nonparametric transfer function models is proposed to model nonlinear relationships between 'input' and 'output' time series. The transfer function is smooth with unknown functional forms, and the noise is assumed to be a stationary autoregressive-moving average (ARMA) process.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Double-Sampling Single-Loop EA Modulator Topologies for Broad-band Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper presents novel double sampling high-order single loop sigma-delta modulator structures for wide-band applications. To alleviate the quantization noise folding into the inband frequency region, two previously reported techniques are used.
